Go for the Irons that have ceramic plates. The best kind are the blue cermaic they add shine and are gentler on the air. I personally like Marcel, it's what we used all throughout beauty school and we were always told that they are one of the best in the business. Also I prefer to use the smaller irons... not the wide ones it takes a little longer but the ned result is a lot cleaner. I also suggest cold blow drying prior to straightening and never go straight down ... it should always be at a slight 45 degree angle. I don't know where you live but try online to look for Marcel... if you live in the east coast sally beauty and depasquel's.

Use an ionic flat iron. It will not curl back easly.
Solia makes a Tourmaline Ceramic Ionic Flat Iron.
According to the Solia flat iron website, "tourmaline,
a precious stone, is used to generate up to 6 times more
negative ions than traditional ceramic irons".( $75/85)

I don't know which brand is best, but go with ceramic - that's the only type that works well on my curly hair without damaging the crap out of it!

The best one is like 150 dollars...so I opted for a cheaper one from Sally's Beauty Supply...as long as it has porcelin plates and high heat you are good to go.

the BEST hair iron brand is Conair. The Best IRON is, "wet to straight" - Trust me on this one. it only takes 3 minutes to warm up.

Black and Decker makes a pretty good one--I'm not sure of the model and all--it's in the basement (I'm in Michigan).
