It seems that by partaking of the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve actually did an altruistic act that allowed mankind to come forth and be born, and to learn to live by faith, overcome hardship, etc. Otherwise, Adam and Eve would have gone about their merry way not knowing good from evil, pleasure from pain, and so forth.

I don't think it was a sin- it was a transgression. It was the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. So until they partook of the fruit, they did not have the knowledge of good and evil. Therefore, it was not a sin as mankind had not yet been given that knowledge. Once they partook, then mankind had that knowledge.

But That was the act that allowed people to be born and the earth to be populated.

What we don't know is how long they were in the garden before the fall.

By their disobedience, sin entered into the world. God never said that there would not have been others, but that Eve would have pains when bearing children. Faith was in existence already because God gave Adam the commandment not to eat of that specific tree, which Eve knew as well. And it took faith for them to believe in the first place. The Bible says that everyone is born with a measure of faith.

That is a good question, unfortunately I do not know the answer. What I wonder also is if god is completely omniscient and omnipotent, then surely he knew that eve was going to eat from the tree of knowledge. but then comes the question of fate. Some believe god gave man free will and with that he gave up some of his omniscience so that humanity would be able to act without god necessarily knowing what they will do,only the possibilities. I personally, do not believe in the Christian/Catholic creation myth, but there are many questions I have about it that I think if people knew the definite answer would make things a bit clearer. At least when it comes to understanding the mythology surrounding the beliefs. EDIT: Lumi is correct, eating the apples from the tree of knowledge gave them the knowledge of their own existence supposedly that they didn't have before. It gave them shame and made them understand how they were naked. In some words it made them more like gods. That is why some believe god didn't want them to do that. but then again you either have to presume that god was being temper mental towards his creation that had little knowledge of itself and right and wrong before it ate from the tree of knowledge. Or you would have to presume that god knew this would happen and even expected it.

The serpent told Eve that she would become like god if she ate the fruit, Genesis 3:4. So Eve and Adam ate it and they did become like God in the sense that they gained the god-like power to create life through biological reproduction.

The bottom line is that it was a sin that they disobeyed God but the sin also allowed for the human race to increase.

The Fall did not provide a knowledge of opposites. It provided a knowledge of evil. Hardship, pain (in some measure) - those are not evil. Evil is a fundamentally different paradigm altogether. What Adam and Eve inherited from that act of sin was the Existential Dilemma, and the over-powering instinct for self-preservation.

So are you saying that "original sin" was really the result of man taking the next step toward higher awareness? If so, I agree. To know both good and evil you have to become self conscious. Without a concept of self you have the simple consciousness of an animal thus can not know good from evil......If eating of the symbolic fruit gave rise to self awareness than the snake must surely symbolize the voice of the ego.

They transgressed a commandment of God and received the punishment God had declared would be a consequence of such action, namely, death and being cast out of the presence of God. They were given a commandment to multiply and replenish the earth FIRST however and seeing that they didn't even know they were naked before they ate of the fruit, they certainly would not have had children. So Yes, they did transgress the law, and death and sin entered the world. But I believe a way was prepared already since God knew this would happen to allow mankind to be redeemed from death and sin. They were responsible for their actions and we are responsible for ours.

We werent created to suffer in this life. That began with Adam and Eve. Yes they sinned, becuase they disobeyed God. God told them not to eat of that fruit and they did so anyway. thats sin, ding anything that is disobedient to Gods word, and it all leads to destruction and death. Now gardens have weeds, there is pain in childbirth, and sin is rampant in this world. so much more jsut awful. That was not Gods intention, but any disobedience leads to pain for many, not jsut those committing it. If your mate cheats on you and leave s you and your children, all are affected, tho only he sinned. think on that a bit. Because God gives us all free choice, we are always being affected by the sin of those around us that wont hear GOd and obey. But there is a difference, because God will protect His ppl and take them thru to victory if they stay obedient to Him. and we are to forgive those that hurt us, and pray for them, yet its ok to move on and to be in a better life with others that do know the Lord. God said Adam and eve didnt know about good and evil, yet they still disobeyed. We can disobey God and not even know it, if we dont know what He says and what to do and not do. He doesnt want us to go on our merry way doing as we please. It brings destruction. We are to do only what He says is ok and to flee from things that arent ok. Look at all the pain the worrld would have been spared if adam and eve had only obeyed. Ppl that know God now do know about sin and consequences, but many still do as they please. A true Christian is one that loves God enough to obey Him. there is no other way.

God probably would have let them discover reproduction. Because he probably would want some more company. Lol. But serisouly. We will never know unless someone goes and changes the past....freaky. And isn't it weird that when most people think of Time Travel, they think of going into the future and the past but the past as in ages in where George Washington was president. Many people don't even think about traveling to the past in where Adam and Eve were living. But, I don't think God would want us to tamper with that....

No. Because after God had created them, he gave them the first commandment...go forth and multiply. Thus, mankind was well on it's way.

The 'forbidden fruit' more than just their disobediance to God, it's their disbelief in Him, because he said that once you eat from it you will die (didn't say WHEN, just simply said they would, and eventually they DID). What I don't get, is why did God allow the serpent into the Garden of Eden in the first place?
