Ok, if the tooth is impacted, in other words, hard to get out, you may have to go to an oral surgeon who will give you a sedative, you may even go to sleep. They make small incisions and surgically remove the tooth.
Afterwards, the socket is going to hurt. You will be given pain killer to help you over the worst. Follow cleaning and care instructions to the letter, it is very important that you keep your mouth clean inside, especially after meals, and avoid sugars and things that are tough to chew until you have healed. You may have stitches, do not play with the stitches with your tongue, allow the area to heal. Do not remove the stitches, they actually will dissolve and disappear on their own. Some swelling is to be expected and will go down as your gums heal. Some bleeding afterward may be normal, but excessive blood in the mouth is not, call your dentist or oral surgeon immediately if unusual bleeding occurs. It will pass, and you will heal and you won't miss the tooth problems. Sorry kiddo! Good luck.

I just had 5 teeth pulled by an oral surgeon. I was knocked out the whole time and I don't remember a thing. I remember going into the office and waking up at home in my bed thinking I missed my appointment!
I was fully sedated. I mean, knocked out. I was perscribed Hydrocodone 2 days before the surgery. I took it like clockwork for the days immediately before and following surgery. I felt absolutley no pain after the surgery and let's just say my pain tolerance is extremely LOW.
I was extremely afraid to get my teeth pulled!! I dealt with the severe pain for months before getting them pulled and my only regret is that I waited so long to have them pulled. It really was a breeze. My mouth was a little numb the night of the surgery but even that was gone the next morning.
If you have high anxietry, see if they can knock you all the way out. You won't feel a thing. You'll wake up resting comfortably in your bed!

It depends on the dentist you use but it does not hurt because thay use gas or numb your mouth with a neddle but trust me it does not hurt because I had it done more than four time and did not feel any pain at all but some dentists will use gas if you ask for that and don't worry if your mouth bleeds bad at first because the first day or two it is going to bleed but the first day going to be heavy right after it is done.
I ended up having some cut out and ended up having where thay cut sewed up and did not feel that at all when sewing it up or cutting in my mouth but when thay pull your tooth out you going to feel the dentist pulling on it, sometimes thay got to cut around the gum where thay are pulling but that does not hurt and you will hear a cracking sound when the denist pulling it.

The dentist will numb the area where the tooth to be extracted is. And give a few minutes for you to get numb. You will open your mouth as big as you can, and he/she will use a couple of tools to get the tooth out. The dentist will, once the tooth is out, put a piece of gauze where the tooth was, and have you close your mouth, to keep it in place. You will be given an instruction sheet as to what to do afterwards, and extra gauze. The extra gauze is for you to personally replace the gauze the dentist put in your mouth, when it is needed. He/she will give you a few pieces of gauze so you will have some for a few hours worth-or the rest of the day. Please, keep your fingers away from the extraction site as much as you can. And, no smoking (if you smoke), I think for 24? hr. You will also need to have some table salt to put in tepid water to rinse your mouth after-the dentist will tell you how soon. It helps your extraction area heal quicker. For any pain after, the dentist might give you a prescription for a pain killer, or just something as simple as tylenol is good too. Take care.

it depends on your dentist. some will put you under. some will just use a topical anesthesia such as Novocaine. your whole mouth will be numb afterwards either way. there will be some pulling feeling while they are pulling it out, but not as bad as you would feel it if you were not numb. when the numbness wears off, you will definitely have some pain for a day or so. take lots of motrin. good luck!

no it probably won't hurt. i had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out (pulled) at the same time(same visit). i went to an oral surgeon and he put me on sodium pentathol. it was a great feeling! then i had pain killers afterwards for about 3-4 days after he put stitches in my mouth. :)

whether it hurts or not depends on your dentist.some will numb the gum area before they give you the novicane,it's painless.also they can put you to sleep and you won't feel a thing but make sure you ask for the numbing stuff if you plan on being awake.don't worry...its done everyday...you'll get through it just fine.
