Rice Crispies have air pockets in them. When the milk melts through to the pockets, guess what? POP!!!!

if you look at a rice crispy before you put milk on it you can see where there are little thin spots on it that break easily when pushed on. Well when you put the milk over the cereal it applies pressure as well as moisture causing all of those small thin crevices to........... SNAP, CRACKLE, AND POP!! =) hope this helps!

Ever notice the little holes? It's caused by air when they crisp the rice. The milk going into these little holes makes the noise. I guess it's sort of releasing more air.
