The Rio Grande Southern Railroad of Colorado built 7 self-powered railcars called Galloping Geese, used for mail, passenger and freight or MOW service. Two were build from Buick sedans & engines while the other five were powered by Pierce-Arrow engines.

I've never heard of an automobile fitted with a rail engine but there have been cases where automobiles and other road vehicles e.g. buses have been fitted with flanged wheels and run on rails.

Also hybrid vehicles with retractable wheels which can run on road or rail.

there was a Bugatti in the '30s that did not sell due to the depression so Ettore put 2 of them into a train , if that is what you mean.
