I am an animal rights activist and I am disgusted by dog fighting. I think it's cruel and inhumane treatment of defenseless animals and more severe punishments should be enforced on those found guilty and convicted of this. I'd like to know other peoples points of view. Thanks

I think that owners that teach their dogs to fight should be thrown in the middle of the fighting ring so the dogs can kill them.
It should be a felony to train your dog to fight!

1) Certain breeds in the category 'pit bull' were selectively bred for dog aggression. It's simply encouraging their prey drive to kick in and giving them a good feeling about it. Not to mention the access to illegal substances which some people in the fighting world most likely use on their dogs. So all in all it's not technically forcing them, it's encouraging the trait through genetics and 'conditioning'. ANY breed or mix of breeds can be used in fighting, 'pit bulls' are just commonly used and get the worst of the reputation for it. 2) I have seen others I like better. It's decent and may actually reach some although I doubt it. Most people involved in that style of life don't care about dogs and couldn't care less how cute they are. Until Dog fighting becomes a crime that has serious consequences idiots will continue to participate. 3) I believe in stricter enforcement of laws already in place as well as requiring a license/inspections to breed some of the bully breeds. I support OSL NOT BSL! 4) It's called a spring-pole and is basically tug-o-war without someone's shoulder being dislocated. I have one in my yard for my dogs. My neighbor and I both use it (it's on the property line) and neither of our dogs have dog aggression or can be classified as vicious (My male is fear-aggressive and has made progress in leaps and bounds. A stranger petted him the other day and he actually seemed to enjoy it.) Tug-o-war is a debate for many people. It does not encourage aggression on it's own however some people consider it an 'off-limits' activity for their dogs. There is nothing you can do unless the dog is allowed to run at large, shows aggression towards you while unsecured or actually goes after someone.

im definately not an Nimal Rights Activist but it only takes common sense to see that dog fighting is wrong and sick. It not only ruins the dog physically but emotianlly and if (or i should say when) the owners are caught and there dogs r taken then they might have to be put down becaseu they were seriously injured or emotionally unstable around other people and animals. I think that there should be greater punishments of rit. And also it ruins the dog breeds name. When u hear pit bull u think of a mean fighting dog that will tear apart any human or animal it comes across. But really there sweet dogs. The same with Rottweilers. My neighbor has a rottweiler and she is the biggest baby ever. The first time i met her she came over sniffed me (i was scared to death) but then she leaned right up against me sat on my feet and wouldn't let me leave untill she decided she had enough petting. SHe is the biggest baby. And her and my Choc. lab got "together" and had puppies so i got to keep one, Charlie, and he is a sweety, also quite clumsy but thats another story. Charlie will let me go over to him even if he has a bone and i can lay right on him and start pulling on his skin, in a playfull way, and he ownt do any thing and hes still a pup!

I agree totally. It angers me because these idiots don't care at all about the dogs. It's all about the gambling, and they see these dogs as "extensions" of their "manhoods" to put it in polite terms (I think you get what I mean). The bigger and meaner the dog, the bigger and meaner their status. This is how people like that think. They have huge egos, and tiny, tiny little brains. This subject always ticks me off. It's cruel and selfish.

Oh, I see we've apparently offended someone who is "pro-dog fighting" as indicated by all the thumbs down going down the list. That's too bad! All people who endorse dog fighting should be put behind bars. It's cruel and hateful animal abuse.

I agree with you 100%! How can anybody watch that kind of cruelty? If I ever got wind of that happening I would call the police immediately. Yes, there should be more severe punishment for these people with character flaws.

I agree, it's a short and hard life for a fighting dog. When the dogs are confiscated by the police/animal control, they often are too dog aggressive to be adopted so they get destroyed.

My thoughts on this subject would most probably be inappropriate to write. Therefore, I will sum it up in one word
"Horrible", I would like to add that I would love to be in charge of handing out the punishments for these actions.

I agree. My chihuahua was mauled and killed by a Pit Bull...it wasn't the dogs fault it was the owners fault by training it to fight. The dog gets out ALL the time and Orange County Animal Services didn't do a thing!!
