Roadkill is right about it having to be more a matter of running up a tree and/or jumping. My old dog when she was about a year old got "lost" it turned out she had "climbed" a tree. She jumped up onto the lowest part that was about a foot and a half from the ground and then run up part of the tree and got stuck on a wide almost flat part.

Normally they don't but I was at the dog park with my dog about a year ago. Someone brought in their Australia Shepard dog, it proceeded to climb a tree there. The dogs owner would toss ropes into the tree and the dog would climb after it.

Yes!! You've never seen The Planet's Funniest Animals on Animal Planet? Should be on basic cable if you have it.
I've seen plenty of dogs do this. And my dog, personally, was so smart that he would climb chain link fences. He would actually put all of his paws into the links, one after the other, and just climb over and jump off. He was a lab / german shepherd mix and had to be the smartest dog in the world. Don't underestimate 'em.

Not quite like a cat, but they can do it! Usually the tree has a natual tilt to it and the dogs more or less run up it.
Dogs will jump into trees with large low limbs.
Some breeds can jump 6ft straight up. Wouldn't surprise me if one could "climb trees" too.

Usually no. But, I saw a pit bull do it once. When they make up their minds to do something not much can stop them.

No but that hasn't stopped my puppy from trying. There was a cat involved.
