My stepkids are under 6 and they are so noisy and messy and do all the wrong things. How many more years of this do I have?

We do discipline them, we try to teach them what they should and shouldn't do, but it seems like it all goes in one ear and out the other.

I think it depends on the kids and the parents.

But noisy and messy 6 and under stepkids will be easier than stepkids trying to show their independence and test your authority when they are pre-teens and teenagers (like all typical kids this age). So there's no guarantee when it'll get easy! I'm sure you can figure out a way to handle this okay. It will all work out! :)

They won't until your spouse lays down the law and teaches them how to act. Children are born noisy and messy and do the wrong things. Parents teach them to act appropriately, and the change can't be made by a step-parent (you can only stand behind him/her and enforce their rules). If this behavior is not dealt with soon you will have teenage delinquents on your hands.

12 at least. Kids never pipe down they only change some may become quieter and more clean but most are sloppy and loud sorry hun comes with the territory, and you can also teach them the "right" things according to your home but becareful how harsh you are they are still real young.

"we try to teach them what they should and shouldn't do, " That's not disciplining them, that is giving them options. No wonder it goes in one ear and out the other. You HAVE to set rules and boundaries, not shoulds and shouldn'ts.

I think most children move out between age 18 and 21....You can expect a slow down then...At least until the grandchildren come around..lol...ss

Don't worry. When they become teenagers, they will quiet down and refuse to acknowledge you entirely, except when they want something.
