is in such a mess because there is no God.

I agree with you. Some people say that man is responsible for their own actions, but at the same time, say god has a plan and we can't change that plan. Therefore, if there is a god, he is trying to have man destroy himself, but he "created us", so he could destroy us.
This is part of the reason that I'm atheist. The world is a mess. We made it that way. If there turns out to be a god, which I strongly believe there is not, but if there was the world wouldn't be as bad. Why would he put the people here that rape, murder, and kill? The plan thing comes back. Was it his plan to have that little boy molested?

The world is in such mess because of man. God does not take your free will from you or anyone else. There is a time, according to Christian bible, the He, God, will will return in the form of His Son to answer all the cries of the ones persecuted.

So what is the question? My thoughts are that the world is such a mess b/c peopledeny God's exsistence. If you don't have anything to believe in, why even exist?

The Bible itself gives evidence that God exists. A book written by 40 people over a 1600 year span couldn't have produced a book as harmonious as the Bible. The Bible is the most severely criticized book in history. By orders of magnitude. There are tons of anti-bible propaganda. But most of the criticism falls short when subjected to scrutiny. That, plus the design evident in nature. There is a branch of science called biomimetics. Designs found in nature are often found to be superior to anything human engineers can come up with. So they copy the designs then "patent" them as if they're their own. God rarely "appeared" to humans. Probably 99.9999% of humans never saw him. But he was working out his purpose, which was basically to produce the Messiah. Once that happened, and the Bible was completed, there was no reason to appear to anyone anymore. He is revealed in the Bible. And the Bible shows that belief in the so-called Judeo-Christain God goes all the way back to Adam and Eve. The other religions that you say pre-date Christianity? Those were just "sects" you could say of the original religion that, over time, changed so much so as to become unrecognizable. But if you do research, you will find common threads in different religions throughout the earth.

I am an agnostic, I say, although that may be an indefinite stand, but I tend to agree with you. One would think that if god exists, he would not allow the horrors which occur to do so, plus, being omnipotent, he would discover the means of making himself indisputedly known as well as to inform us by an unquestionalbe method (not via an ancient unverifiable manual or through self-professed prophets) what exactly he expects of us so that faith or a belief system is not required of us. Having said all that, I must add that in my spiritual search, I studied Qabalism which is Jewish mysticism; in explaining the method of god's creativity, Qabalism reveals that the material Cosmos is imperfect since it is a reflection by way of three higher more ideal worlds and is, therefore, somewhat distorted. I tend to find that concept helpful when I am leaning toward my more theist views...

So a mess of a world without a god is better than a mess of a world with a god? I'm not at all convinced by that argument and of course its meaningless to deists.

Now if only the religious cultists would stop praying to their gods to get us out of the mess and start working themselves to make the world a better place.

Error. The world being a mess has nothing to do with God.

We're screwing it up...God did not.

Dont blame God for the mess this earth is in, it is all man kinds fault. God does not interfere with our free will. We are the ones who have destroyed His creation.

God didn't turn his back on the world, the world turned its back on God.
