She sounds rude to me, treat her the same way you would any other woman, or man for that matter. A head scarf doesn't make her special.

by using non secular custom. it is not any distinctive from Western women human beings having to conceal up breast-feeding of toddlers, or having to costume up for events or positioned on uniforms whilst required (they are not loose to positioned on casually in many artwork positions until eventually they desire to get fired.) Freedom is subjective. while you're used to the custom, then the different cultures seem extra stifling.

I'm all for diversity, but there still have to be common rules for dealing with people in situations like this. And in the West, the rule is that you're expected to speak to store personnel, male or female, when you need help, and they are expected to answer. She was the one who needs to learn the rules.

Yes, there is a proper way to relate. In her country woman are second class citizens and are thus treated in a manner that we would see and demeaning and disrespectful. However, to her, it is a treatment that is expected and respected. Your "no offence" ignorant mannerisms may have offended her. In her country she would of been quickly spat upon as a means of examplifying her unwantedness in a "gas station". This is where only men should be. Such a question would not be asked of her in a typical situation. And in doing so, you have not treated her as per her religous and social beliefs, incidentally...insulting her.

I don't think the scarf had anything to do with it. More her own rudeness.
You did fine as long as you said please and thank you.
