Make notes to yourself to help you remember things. Put your stuff in the same place all the time, that way you don't have to wonder where you put it the last time you had it. If it is really bad, label your drawers and stuff to help you remember.

I have this problem and it took me 29 years to find the solution:

1) pocket diary

Keep it with you EVERYWHERE, ALWAYS. Write important things THERE and nowhere else (ie, not on scraps of paper... backs of envelopes etc).

2) Filing box

Dont put papers on the shelf, under the bed.. etc, they will get lost.

3) Post Notes

I dont use paper post it notes... go to google widgets and download a memo widget for your desk top.. or if you got vista, activate the memo widget in the side bar.

Write reminders there, but also in the diary

4) Determination

The problem can be overcome but you need discipline and you need to have faith! Most other people don't understand.. they just think you are irresponsible.. but don't worry.. I know what it's like and its HARD!!

Just try not to let it frustrate you and each time you have a set back... see it as another challenge!

Good luck.

This is a common problem. At least it was for me. You can overcome it by getting in the habit of writing everything down. Write down everything from the classes you take to homework to grocery list to people you meet in a day. Start every day with a list and by going over the list from yesterday. You never outgrow the list but then you don't feel as stupid when you forget things.

make notes for yourself, that will help you remember. Pay close attention when you paut something down as to where you put it... try to make a mental picture of the last place you saw things you can't find... I do things like this all the time...

Create a routine. Put your keys in the same place every time. Refrain from laying things down. Make this your motto: Every thing in it's place every time.

do whatever you have to, to show your family you are responsible. pay attention, write yourself notes, ask someone to get you a daily planner.
This is an issue with a simple solution, but if you don't do something, it will become a huge problem....
