I keep hearing there are glitches, it has bugs, it's horrible. I do not understand even the basics of it. I have McAfee, so is it really that big of a threat?

Dest, I googled what you said to. I see what you are speaking of. It does run a bit slower, but I am not creating top secret government files.

You were helpful and appear to be intelligent, but there isn't a need to use my own words against me. I am not computer illiterate and mayhap when I said I didn't understand, I should have rephrased it. It was free and all I was wondering was why it was getting such a horrible reputation. I thank you and everyone else though. You have all been helpful.

Also, everyone hated XP and Windows 2000 when it came out...just a note. Sorry, everything is glitchy when it comes to PCs.

If you buy a new system with Vista preinstalled its fine. The main gripes come from people who install it on an existing set up because they can have problems with the recourses it requires and driver and application incompatabilities.

it is not a threat as far as getting viruses so much as it is just bugs in the vista itself. some people are having problems running particular programs in vista. it all depends on your computer and programs you have. the best thing you can do is just try it out and keep track of anything fishy. you can let microsoft know so that they can include patches for the bugs in their next release. other problems has to do with if you don't have the proper hardware, then you can't run certain vista applications efficiently or at all. hope this helps!

The problem is not so much with viruses. Its just its new and they have to get all the bugs and problems delt with. Takes a certain amount of time. Say 6 months to a year. When XP came out many hated it aswell. But now its good. I want Vista aswell but I'm going to wait til the bugs are fixed. Good Luck.

You are a perfect canadate for Vista exactly because you do not understand it.
Do a search on Google or Yahoo for the key phrase "Why Vista's DRM Is Bad For You" and you will understand.
Rather than listening to opinions get the facts.

its really not as bad as people sound. people are much more likely to voice their opinion if a product is bad, as opposed to those that praise it.

the bugs and glitches aren't all about security, but you're fine with McAfee, its with some programs 'n stuff.

in short, you have nothing to worry about!
