We've got a large family - 5 kids, ages 10, 7, 5, 3 and 2. A couple are picky - i.e. one won't eat hamburger, another won't eat potatoes . . . but for the most part we're just looking for something that we could "throw" together.

We both work full time - I don't get home until 6:45 pm. Hubby gets home with all the kids 1st, works on homework, then dinner. Has to be 45-30 minutes or less with nothing fancy/funky.

We always keep: frozen chicken, hamburger, canned tuna, soups and veggies, pasta & rice (both standard & roni's), cheese, eggs, hot dogs & fish sticks, bisquick. Potatoes and onions are about the only fresh things we keep. . . . PLEASE HELP!

Kraft Foods is real good, as already noted

Do you own a crock pot? That could be your savior. Throw in a roast, some chicken breasts. or a pork roast in the morning and let it cook all day, and that will speed things up in the evening. The meat can even be frozen. Once the meat is done, you can do just about anything. Add bbq sauce to any of them while you make some side dishes, or cook some potatoes and carrots along with the meat.

One day I threw a beef roast in the crock pot and let it cook all day, didn't know what I was going to do with it when I got home. I sauted some peppers and onions, shredded the beef, put those and some cheese in some tortillas and baked them for a great quick meal.

Best of luck, and I will check back to get some more ideas!

If they like stir fry then walmart has a jumbo bag that will serve you all and takes only 15-20 minutes to get ready great tasting too - We are a family of 5 and know about picky- They also have those soups in a bag that you can leave in the crock pot while at work and ready when you get home- also search for quick recipes or genie's cooking recipes- great ideas on freezing foods and only need to defrost and heat to serve -

two things with cream of mushroom soup from family of 8.
1) a.boil up penne or macraroni
b. add desired amount of cans of cream of mushroom soup and cans of tuna fish to desired flavor. add salt and pepper as wanted. shouldn't really need to water down the soup, if you want add some milk but not alot, you will want it kinda thick, this will give you a quick version of tuna casarole.
OR
2) slow cook some chicken, in another pan heat up cream of mushroom soup (half deluted so that it stays thick like sauce) make some minute rice and when chicken is done serve on rice with soup sauce over top. To help flavor the sauce, I like to pour some of the juice from the cooked chicken in the soup and stir. I usually add some veggies for a side and am good to go.
Neither should take more than 20 min. or so,
good luck!

Use one day off in the week to pre-cook some of the staples. Buy some cream soups and some sauces. You can start mixing and matching the items, and serve a green salad, tomato salad or a fruit salad on the side. Do not feel bad if you don't serve all the food groups in one meal, just so long you have everything average out in the week.

You can make stews, casseroles, soups, pot pies and wraps, with the items that are pre-cooked, it is fast, you simply re-heat the mixture of choice.

You can also purchase items that are easy for children to make for themselves, melted cheese sandwiches, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, shish-kabobs, etc. Have fresh fruit on the table, have small dishes of mixed nuts in reach, have small cubes of cheese or dried fruit in the fridge. There does not need to be a cooking feast every day! Have a pick-nick!

Do you have a pressure cooker? I would recommend one as you can throw all the food in together and get it cooked in a quick space of time with a good taste. There are a number of recipes on line by doing a search you will find a number of recipes, from casseroles, to risotto, vegetarian dishes etc When we were little my mother used hers all the time and I have got one recently and am really enjoying it being quick and easy to use! Good luck and all the best :-)

Chicken is always nice to have. You can do so many thing with it and its so quick to cook Put it in the over at 350 for about 30 minutes. Season however you want to. Salads are always easy and if you have picky kids like I do let them pick out the veggies they might like in it and also let them pick out the dressing they like. If you like rice and pasta, things like that keep Angel hair pasta in the pantry. Cooks in 3-5 minutes. Also, as a rice subsititue buy Couscous. You can find it in the rice isle. Take about 5 minutes to cook and they have many different flavors. My husband is a massivley picky eater and he loves the Parmesian cheese flavored one. Throw this all togehter with some pilsbury biscuits or rolls and your have a dinner that is done in about 30 minutes or less. Enjoy :D

Cook the pasta, add some black olives and cheeses and some cream of mushroom soup and chopped onions and a can or two of tuna. Cover with more cheese ( in a baking dish) and cook until the cheese is melted and it is heated all the way through.
Tuna cassarole!

Can totally be cooked ahead of time and refrigerated. Serve with fresh french or italian bread and salad. Have to feed them something healthy!
