I have a 12 and 13 year old cat. Indoor cats tend to live a lot longer than outdoor cats. Indoor cats can live to the average age of 20 years old. The cat of my friend's grandmother lived for 28 years.

If varies, but the biggest factor is whether it's an indoor or outdoor cat. Cats that are outside full-time have the shortest lifespans, and indoor cats live the longest. Indoor/outdoor cats fall somewhere in between.

I had an indoor/outdoor cat that made it to 13. My mom has two i/o cats that are 15 and 11 and still going strong, although the older cat doesn't go out as much as she used to.

You are very luck for your cat to live to 23. I think most cats live about 15-17 years depending upon health, etc. My first cat lived 17 years. She had kidney disease and may have lived longer had she not had this. My other cat, very healthy died suddenly at 15 (probably a stroke or heart attack). Take good car of the cat. She will live a long and wonderful life if you care for her like you did the other cat. My sympathies at the loss of your pet, too, by the way.

i have 4 indoor...outdoor cats. they come in before the evening becomes dangerous. I like them in by 8:00 sometimes I can`t get them in until later especially in the summer and that`s OK in the summer because people are out and still about. my 2 senior cats are very healthy 13 year old babies and going strong. It`s not uncommon to hit the 20 year mark for well cared for healthy cats.

I think the average life expectancy of an indoor cat is 15-17 years now, but my vet told me that there are documented cases of cats living past 30 years and the list is getting bigger, here is hoping your cat passes the thirty mark, I want mine too...

Some cats can live up to 25 yrs.

As previous poster mentioned, the average lifespan of an outdoor cat is 3 years.

My old cat lived to be 22 and 1/2 years of age. That is not "average" as it is over 100 in human years.

At 11 your cat is in its middle fifties and barring acidents or cancer could easily live another seven-eight years.
