I need help getting back on the road to fixing my relationship with the Lord. We have been out of church since my daughter was born. And we have had some serious things happen in our marriage that have made me walk away from the Lord. I have not been praying, reading the word. My language has changed, my attitude, and my relationship with my husband and kids is suffering. Please HELP ME! Remind me of how great it is to be close with the LORD again!

First thing Rebecca is you need some brothers and sisters out there praying for you. I'll start the chain.
Second, remember He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
He's not going anywhere and none of this has taken Him by surprise. He is waiting patiently for you to return to the safety of His embrace.
Third... Get out the Word, get on your knees and start singing praise songs (three steps here).
Praise Him, know that there are prayer warriors going to the throne for you right now!
Get to a church, talk with a pastor, and follow him you little lost sheep you!.
God Bless and I'm going to my class tonight and you are at the top of my prayer list!

First step, is to get out your bible and pray---Ask the Lord to open your heart to Him and to fill you with His Spirit and longing for His word. And then find a good bible teaching church and bible study if you can...a women's study, most have child care.
You need good fellowship with other believers too! And you can also buy a good devotional book at a christian book store, and get into the habit of doing that everyday---spending some time with the Lord, I too get bad at doing this, but I continually pray the Lord will get me up in the morning and that I will pray and read His word first....sometimes I do it at night if it does not happen in the morning, and sometimes I do forget. I also try to do devotions with my kids once a week....this is so important to me and my husband.
Revelation 3:20
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. (oh and what matt said below, yes repentence is very important, to turn away from sinning and ask the Lord to keep you grounded in his truth and to keep you from falling away from Him)

Honey there is nothing better in the world then being close to Christ. It makes everything else work. Being that you are a Christian you already know that. WE all make mistakes and can get off track but the Lord always takes us no matter what. You should find a church that is comfortable for you and your family and start there. Start doing the things that you have stopped doing.. reading etc. You already know what you need to do honey. There is nothing better.

God has guidelines set out for us in the bible that if followed will make our life a little easier. When we stray, we forget our real goal. I'm glad your able to say you have drifted. It takes alot of strength to want to return to the flock. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and I believe strongly in prayer and study. It really helped me to have a more established member of the congregation study bible truths with me a few times a week until it was again a routine.. Can I recommend contacting your local Kingdom Hall and asking for a study of the bible? There are many women and men who would be willing to study with you or your whole family. Pray for an open mind and a humble spirit. Accept the discipline because discipline is a sign of love. I would love to help you in any other way I can.. feel free to email me

Perhaps this will help Rebecca,
I dwell on this topic every day.I dwell on Culture.I find most don't study culture.Part of culture is religion-meaning you are born into a religion. There is less than 1% conversion rate for any given culture(example:converting from Catholic to Hindu). What this statistic means-is that 99%+ just accept the religion they are born into and do not question it's history. With that said,I used to argue science against religion, thinking about such topics as the world's 4.5 billion years of evolution and how man started religion only thousands of years ago with some great texts, and how organically-we're just cell/water organisms like anything else-very egocentric to think we have the mental capacity to understand what IT is out there, and finally-cosmicly-that we can't scratch the surface of what is out there(planets,galaxies,etc),ye... majority believe God started it.But,science is man made too just like the bible.I conclude culture as the prime reason society believes in God. Believe in yourself. Self worth is not measure by believing in a myth(God) created by the culture you are born into.

God didn't GO anywhere.... your habits/perceptions changed.

When you have to ask yourself what to do next, just choose the LOVE based answer......
not the fear based answer.

Faith is knowing that everything is ultimately going to be OKAY even if you don't understand it yet.

When life doesn't go the way YOU planned, it is because God has a better idea.

Challenges are opportunities to be GREAT. Sometimes failing is winning.....

Read Luke 15:11-32. It's the parable of the lost son. Come back to the Lord. Read your Bible, pray without ceassing and repent of your ways. The Lord will welcome you with open arms again.

It seems to me that you already know how sweet the lord is. Sounds like your faith needs to be strengthened. If you ever experianced the presence of the lord you would never need anyone to remind you. Repent he'll take you back.

I think we all go through this kind of thing in life, life just overwhelms us at times. Start by praying and reading the Bible. Remember, even if you leave Jesus, He did not leave you. He promised to be with you always. Child of God, come home.

The Lord is love, and every act of love, charity, and kindness ultimately stems from Him. This is a good place to start from.
