It won't change the flavor, but be careful with color. It wont always turn out as nice-looking as it sounds... for instance... say you put green food coloring in a cake mix. It's not going to be GREEN really... more of puky grayish green. Unless you use a LOT maybe... but yeah. It's easier to just tint frostings, etc. I guess it depends on what you're making. Yellow food color might enhance a sauce or glaze... but other than that... I'd just go "au naturale".

It depends on the type of cooking and the food coloring. Baking for instance, can be tempermental. The gel food coloring should be okay with everything. The liquid should be okay in small amounts. Dont ask me about powder, i never use it, it SUCKS!!

I use it rarely, but have had best luck with the gel variety for depth of color. I just took a chocolate class where the instructor said to ONLY use the powdered kind for chocolates since the liquid will prevent the chocolate from hardening correctly.

It depends if you are making something with a light colored batter like white cake or somewhere around that color...then YES it will but with a darker color it will not turn out to well.
~When mixing whatever you are making always make it a little darker then you want b/c when u bake it , it will come out lighter then you wish.

Yes, of course you can. Food coloring works best when added to light colored dishes.

It won't taste the flavor of your food - if that's what you mean. But remember to not use too much, otherwise it may make your food funky.
