As stated, it depends on the resolution of the photo, also referred to as pixels per inch (PPI).
Here are the general sizes
5x7 inches:
@ 72 PPI= 360x504
@ 150 PPI= 750X1050
@ 300 PPI= 1500x2100

The answers above me are correct, but I'll go one step further and say that this translates into about a 3 MegaPixel image, if you are printing the full image with no cropping.

This is based on printing at one dot per pixel and using 300 dpi to print, which is all common convention. You can go down to about 200 dpi without much noticeable loss in quality and that would mean you need less than a 2 MP image. 3 MP is better, though.

depending on the resolution, for 72 resolution you have 504 x 360 this is for tv or web. if you have 240 resolution for small print, you have 1680 x 1200. if you have a 300 resolution, you have 2100 x 1500 for bigger print size. hope this helps.
