I’m about to move from the UK to Portugal and I would like to take some of my belongings with me. But I’m afraid that this will cost me a lot so I’m viewing my options to decide if it is in fact the best thing to do or sell them. I really think that the amount I would like to transport, fill a cargo van.

Drive them there. Rent a lorry for a week or buy a cheap second hand lorry then sell it when you get to Portugal (being right hand drive in the UK and left in Portugal makes this a bit awkward). Much cheaper than shipping but if you did ship your property to Portugal then there are many shipping agents that will deal with everything for you.
