Assuming you are not having severe nerve impairment, then a conservative trial of epidural steroid injections may be of benefit. Get a referral to an interventional pain management specialist who can assist you with the injections. He will also be able to get you on the proper medications. If left unattended, more permanent damage could result with loss of use of the affected leg or even loss of bowel or bladder.

Acupuncture is the best treatment for sciatica; surgery is the last.
I think you have approached a quack. To treat sciatica it needs a master acupuncturist. Selection of points and left right combination are very important. It is not easy to explain here. Many times it is not sciatica but doctors declare it as sciatica as the symptoms match. I have treated failed surgery cases.
If unattended it becomes chronic and you will have to go for surgery.

Note: True sciatica is caused by a nerve being pinched at the spine. It can be treated with pain meds or chiropractic work. False sciatica is pain that feels like sciatica, but is caused by the same nerve being pinched by muscles in the butt. This kind of sciatic pain can be fixed by massage and stretching of the muscles. It's important to diagnose this correctly, because if you can correct using massage and exercise rather than meds or chiropractic, you will save money and feel better faster.

It depends on the cause of the sciatica. It can be caused from anything as simple as a strain or too much exercise to an infection, to an injury. You need to find the cause before you will know the correct treatment.

find a good cranial sacral therapist and then once you have it straightened out find a good personal trainer to strengthen the muscles in your leg and hip to prevent it from happening again
