I was shopping in GNC and happened upon a tub of old fashioned peanut butter. The store manager told me that many people eat this instead of Jiffy, Skippy etc due to the fact that there is only nuts, no added ingredients that may be the culprit to your son's allergies. However, is he allergic to nuts? if so that may be why. But my husband is allergic to nuts and can eat peanut butter. Also, he may be allergic to the oil that is put in the peanut butter. Look into the ingredients or go to GNC

If he is allergic to peanut, or all nuts? If so, make sure he understands this and knows how to avoid it at school at friends houses etc.
You can make delicious spreads to replace this.
Try cream cheese, add some vanilla sugar and mix, spread this on his toast with some starwberry jam...yummy!
Try Hummus, this on bread or toast with some sliced chicken is also very good.
Try making a this salsa for him from the veggies he LIKES, anything can be cut up small, mixed, cooked together with some spices, and cooked slowly down until it is a thicker sauce. This is called Lecso in hungarian (tomatoes, onions, peppers) or also Ajvar in several countries and includes sometimes eggplant or similar vegetables.
Try making a meat spread. Cook chicken breast pieces in broth with some onion, salt, celery etc. Put pieces in blender with only enough juice to make a thick paste. (kinda like Red Devil)
All these things above can be made at home, can be spread or can be used as a dip.
Be sure to educate your child well about his allergy, then also, teach him/her how to prepare food for themselves. Have plenty of ok snacks ready to go. Cheese squares, beef jerky, boiled eggs, fruits, etc

I have a question: Why even introduce "fake" peanut butter? Is it not better to teach your child to avoid anything that even uses the "peanut butter" name.?
Why not try Thickened applesauce or Flavored speads they taste nothing like peanut butter but they still taste good!

It's fine, it will work, it tastes pretty much like peanut butter, it costs a little more. Just try it.

Almond butter is a nice alternative.
You could also try Nutelo (which I believe is a hazelnut butter).
Enjoy!
