Go to the NHS website (www.NHS.uk) and click on dentists. There will be a drop down menu. Click on either nearest search or local search. It will give you a list of NHS dentists in and around your area. And usually tells you whether they are taking on any new patients. Good luck!!

It is virtually impossible to get into a NHS Dentist nowadays. I have had to sign up privately for my daughter and myself out of desperation, and I pay monthly by direct debit. However, in an emergency if you phone NHS Direct they will tell you which hospital has dental facilities, you will be able to have your tooth seen to there. I wish you well.

Call the dental helpline on 02380 338 336
It is a national database of all NHS dental practise's in the UK, they can also arrange emergency appointments for the same day if you call them early enough.
Do stick in there when trying them as they get very busy with people in the same situation as you.
Also there should be some arrangement for weekend emergencies in your area which the dental helpline can help you with.

Try getting in contact with your local Primary Care trust and they should point you in the right direction.
If all else fails and the pain gets worse get yourself off down the local hospital!
Which area do you live in if you dont mind me asking, only my company have over 40 nhs practices upon and down the uk!

The answer to your question is "with great difficulty" as they seem to be few and far between in England and up here in Scotland, they are completely non-existent.
