There are 10 in the House who have sons including Republican Todd Akin - son is Marine in Iraq. The Senate has a few I know including Senator Bond another Republican. Wealth does not stop people from joining the military, my son is a Army Ranger & Officer & he could more than afford to not join. Patriotism comes in all financial areas.

Yes. Almost my entire community has a son, daughter or other close relative serving in one of the wars America is currently actively engaging. I personally have several friends, and even my sister, who have either already served more than one tour of duty or are on their way soon (though, I am not a "politician").

War is war - family are people, and people are people. My biggest issue with those who so actively oppose the Iraq war seem to quickly forget that our men and women who compose our United States Military VOLUNTEERED to wear that uniform, and they took an oath to "Fight and Defend at the call of my country at all costs"...I myself, am a former servicemember.

Fine that one doesn't agree with the war or why we are there, but our voices in Washington need to hear that then...by your vote, and everyone elses. Vote to change our "democratic" two-party majority system...do something to change the system and our mouthpieces in Washington and in your home state...don't complain about a "symptom" like a particular war - it makes servicemembers dislike people who do. They are proud of themselves, and proud of their jobs - we should be more proud of them for stepping up to the challenge, and protecting our interests at home so we can sleep well at night.

Also, if you are opposed to the war in Iraq, you better be opposed to all wars at all times for all reasons...Iraq has been an issue since the US was stupid enough so many decades ago to put Hussein into power. But his regime did have a hand in the terrorism which captivated the US on its own soil not only on 911, but several other attacks on our military bases, ships, and gov't buildings over seas. WMDs or no WMDs, that just means someone didn't find them or Hussein got rid of them ASAP when he knew without a doubt we were going to invade. Point is, he had them, he was in the process of making them - he even had a nuclear team working in top secret labs...if you recall within days of 911 all of the middle east was dancing in their streets hailing the attack on the US- and he's invaded neighboring countries before in order to gain control of their oil, not to mention the genocide of his own people.

Bottom line: we put him there, and we finally made it right and fixed it. I just hope we don't end up with the same issue with this new guy in 40 years.

Yes many congressman and especially different legislators and things have sons there. Especially those we later plan on running for president or some other office because then they dont look stupid like Bush and Kerry when it comes out that they were draft dodgers etc..

I think I have heard of one or two Dems, but no repubs. Thats why we call them previledged brats. You got a rich Daddy, you don't have to go and in fact you are encourged not to go.
