Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
Pain can be referred from places other than the head.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.
For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

If the headache keeps coming back, it could be more than just a headache. If tend to get the pounding on one side of your head with sensitivity to light and sound, it's a migraine. You can try ice packs or an over the counter "migraine" medication. If they remain severe, you might need prescription medication for it. If you feel like you have a tight band around your head (forehead around to the back of your head), those are generally tension headaches. Excedrin Tension works well or you could try meditation. If you feel it more in your forehead, around the eyes and cheeks, then it's probably a sinus headache. Try taking sinus medication to help relieve the pressure. Drinking water throughout the day will almost help. If the headache don't seem to go away, make an appointment with your doctor. It could be a sign of a more serious problem.

You need to go to the doctor. They have meds that can help, especially when I went through a period of some intense migraines.
For the meantime, get away from the computer, lie in a dark quiet room if you can. I've also heard an old wive's tale that soaking your hands and / or feet in cold water can help. I can't attest to that though, I read about it after my migraines passed.

If I don't have any of my prescription meds and I feel a migraine coming on, I usually take 4 or 5 aspirin and lay down for awhile. It all depends on your tolerance though, you may not be able to take that many without feeling ill if you're not used to so many painkillers. Don't wait for it to get worse, that's just silly...

I always take Excedrin Migraine, it works great. I've had numerous prescription medicines, but none worked as good as Excedrin.

I sit in the shower, water as hot as I can stand it on very low flow. Let the water run down my head, close my eyes and think of nothing.

No medication helped me when I was in your situation.
The only thing to ease to pain was vomit, as much as I could.
I forced it and forced it, then I lay down to sleep.
In the long run I found it downed the symptoms.
Finally you’ll have to wait it out.
Sorry. All the best. A brother in pain.
You are welcome

this works pretty well...and it's natural. feel the fleshy portion of your palm between your thumb and forefinger (of you non-dominant hand) and see if it feels like it's knotted. if it's knotted, apply pressure to it for 5 minutes and then slowly message.
