There are several ways. lots of good thermal insulaters.

My best suggestion is to use newspaper. Plain old news paper, no glossy ads. wrap your buddy in several tight layers of newspaper (untill its as big as a softball) and keep out of direct sunlight, and he will still be there in three hours.

Use Tin Foil and Salt sprinkled on the ice cube this should keep it cold for a few hours, you will have to wrap the ice cube in this tin foil and make sure you salt the ice generously, I saw this tip somewhere don't remember where but it was being used for a camping tip you could try it with your science project Good Luck !
