My 5 year old daughter keeps biting/licking her lips and causing them to become very chapped (even above and below her lips) in this extemely cold weather. Any tips to limit the redness/soreness that is happening because of her biting? The Dr just told me to keep medicated chap stick on her, I was wondering if anyone else had any helpful tips

My son regularly takes a medication that gives him dry-mouth so he does the same thing. No matter how much water he drinks, the licking chaps his lips. We tried various chapsticks, and lip balms. The ones that smelled good, tasted good, etc.

Chap-sticks have a wax in them to help them hold their shape. The idea is also that they will help hold in moisture or protect the lips. I have only found most of them to provide minimal relief. One with Shea butter was OK.

We had the best luck with a Blistex roll-on, it is in a silver tube, and DOESN'T taste very good. Also with the old-fashioned Carmex.

Homeopathic alternative. In some well stocked grocery stores, or gourmet stores you can find the following;
Cocoa butter, olive oil based lip balm, palm butter, you get the idea.

Good luck to you. It's an on-going battle.
