what does he mean by 'closer'? if he means physically, you should ask yourself how well you know each other 'mentally'.
6 months isn't a whole lot of time to get to know someone.
you can get closer by spending time together with friends and family and see how they interact wtih the people you love.

Well ask him how he feels first, than if you feel the same way tell him. If your not ready to get closer to him you should also let him know.
