Well first off, I really son't know if atheists believe in a soul so answer that. But if you do, then how? You say that the universe was created from explosions and then those things were sreap around and formed over billions of years. So how could matter, which is a physical thing, creat something spiritual? Matter doesn't know how to make a human have a soul.

One more thing, in the beginning of time, you say that somehow stars and planets were just there. But how did they get there? Matter can'y just appear out of thin air. But now your saying, "ok, how coula God just appear. Well at the beginning of time God is the only sensible thing to have been there because something would of had to make the thing that exploded or the matter that formed.

Some people said that if matter couldn't just exist, then how could God? But wouldn't a Creator be more a sensible thing to start out then just plain matter?

Well, there is only one God and he is the one who created everything . He created the planets, the sky, animals, and everything else. I don't no how god was created, but he's been here before the world began and is still here. If you go to heaven, That's if you believe in him and Jesus Christ, you can ask him yourself.

No, atheists don't believe in souls - that is a religious concept which is incompatible with having no religion.

As a matter of fact, matter can and does appear out of thin air - There is plenty of experimental evidence for the existence of the quantum vacuum, in which particles and antiparticles come into existence spontaneously and uncaused, and (usually) annihilate each other almost instantly. Hence there is no reason to postulate a 'creator' to carry out this process of creating matter out of thin air.

A creator god cannot exist because intelligence can have only two possible origins - It can either be the product of an unthinking, undirected natural process (evolution) or it can be the product of an antecedent intelligence (e.g. humans creating intelligent robots, if we ever do). If something is hypothesised to be the product of neither of these causes, such as the Christian deity, then it cannot exist.

You asked: So how could matter, which is a physical thing, creat something spiritual? Matter doesn't know how to make a human have a soul.
Matter does not create spiritual deities, man created spiritual deities to try to explain some of the experiences they did not understand: such as, birth, death, earthquakes, floods, storms, etc.
I do not believe in a "soul," but everything has energy moving through it. Everything is made up of atoms that constantly move. Many people I know who don't believe in the soul, do believe that this energy does not die with us. In fact, energy does not die, it transposes.

The second paragraph answers itself. Where and how did "God" come to be and then "create" everything? Did he just "appear out of thin air?" (your phrase)
Scientifically speaking, matter (planets, asteroids, dust) proves the theory of a big bang, but there is absolutely NO evidence or tangible proof that deities exist.

See the real "problem" with this whole debate is you have people
who really think they know the unknowable.

Simple fact: No has nor ever will know what is beyond our physical reality.

As soon as people let go of this then we can all get along and have our own individual beliefs that don't hurt others.

It much more practical to agree that we should just all be positive and work for a better future and that none of us have "special privileges" which cause resentment to others who disagree.

1- No, atheists do not believe in "souls."
2- You talked yourself into a hole. If matter was always there in some form, then it didn't have to "appear out of thin air" at all. Perhaps you can't accept that premise, but that reluctance has nothing to do with physical reality or logic.

E-mail me if you need further clarification.

I guess if you believe in a soul, then God must have created the universe, because matter could not have created the soul that you think you believe in. Impressive logic. I just may convert back to Christianity.

NO

Souls were invented to explain life, thought and emotion. Now those things are better understood its time to bin that stupid outdated hypothesis.

Next time someone says to you 'if we dont have souls how can you feel happy or sad?' (and people have saidthis to be on several occasions) remind them that both emotions can be caused by pharmaceutical drugs - do drugs effect our immortal soul???? please!

Oh and as for 'there had to be a god to start things - ok so who created god' see? Not so great an argument after all.

I don't believe in "souls".

"you say that somehow stars and planets were just there."

I don't know. Do YOU?

"Well at the beginning of time God is the only sensible thing."

An assumption is not an argument. Please hang up and try again.

Many people, myself included, believe there is a creator. He just doesn´t happen to be the one defined by Middle Eastern Hebrew scribes back 6000 years ago.

Native Americans describe a Creator who expected humans to live in harmony with all his creations. This Creator didn´t require animal sacrifice to make Him happy, and he didn´t have his own son sent to earth murdered. I like the Native American Creator much better...He seems much more loving because He loves all creations with out conditional requirements. The same way we love our own children with out the condition that they worship us.

There is no evidence there is a soul. You can have mine if you can find it.

And the universe was always there in some form. If you think you answer anything by saying god did it, well where did he come from? All you do is add a layer of complexity and don't actually answer a damn thing. And you do it with no evidence to back it up. (see Occam's Razor)
