My parakeet is very friendly. I just got her a few days ago and she already sits on my finger and is on my shoulder right now. I have heard that males talk more than females. Mine is younger and doesn't talk yet. I have had tiels before, and so far I like my parakeet better. She is not as loudd or as messy. She is still messy but not as much as a tiel. My parakeet only nibbles, she hasn't really bit yet, but I'm fairly sure keets don't hurt as much as tiels.

I have two parakeets, and they are both very loving. The only time my bird 'nips' at me is when he moults. (his feathers fall out, and its very uncomfortable, so they dont like to be touched.) My baby boy does talk. Not like humans, but he makes noises, and can say his name pretty clearly. Defanately lets me know what he wants. Males are most defanately more likely to talk, but that doesnt mean they ALL talk. Also, the way you raise it is very vital for its friendlyness. They need a LOT of attention. If raised right, they will be sooo sweet, you just want to cuddle them.

If you give them the love and attention they deserve, they will be devoted to you! That means time every day playing with them and talking to them. They are rarely mean, but if they do nip they HURT for such tiny birds!!! They are not big on being petted, but will snuggle up to you on their own terms. If you get more than one, it will likely bond to the other and not be so tame with you. Yes, they talk up a storm, they are renowned for being some of the best bird-talkers with sometimes very large vocabularies, but their voices are not too clear often. Males are much more likely to talk than females, which rarely talk.

Show them love. I had 3, one was adopted at a pretty good age, but they all were friendly, lovable, birds. And I miss them terribly. One died of a cancer, a tumor in her stomach. I have a cockatiel now, and this is his 4th home, I have had him for 7 years. You have to know how to handle them, show them love, and they will be gentle, loving, birds. I allowed all of my birds out of their cages, they were allowed to come and go back to their cages as they liked. Except when I was cooking, or doing something that could injure them. My cockatiel is sitting on my shoulder at this minute. If you just leave them to sit in their cages all day long with no interaction, don't get one! Don't get any pet, if you can't take care of them, and show them that you love them.

They usually try to bite off your finger if you try to touch them or something. What I heard from my grandmother's parakeets was just a lot of noise. I love animals. I'm just talking of what I had experienced and can't really say that I like them too much.
God bless you :)

females generally don't learn to talk and if you want a friendly one it'll have to be hand raised.
