I find that breathing really hard & quickly to get my heart rate going seems to make it end quicker since it wakes me up... or maybe I just convince myself that it does. What do you do?

It's such a frightening experience. The first time, I thought I was in a coma. What are you experiences with it? What did yo think the first time?

My ex had this. It was scary. I feel sorry for people who suffer with this disorder. One thing I remember was that if he could just concentrate on moving even just a single finger, it would open the door to snapping out of it.

Personally, I haven't recalled ever having sleep paralysis during waking hours, but my brother has it alot and it was a huge problem for him especially when he's waking up. He said that it normally lasts about 20 seconds and during that time he cannot do nor say anything at all.

We did some online research and found out that sleep paralysis is normal as it prevents the body from movement while the person is in REM sleep. We found out that certain body positions will incur sleep paralysis, such as lying on your back (for my brother, however, it was the total opposite - it was mostly on his stomach and occasionally on his side.).

Some tips we found out included:
- Having a proper sleeping habit
- Waking up before the normal or the usual time
- Sleeping in a different position

My brother followed the last two and I haven't heard any complaints from him since, so maybe It might work for you, but I suggest that you do some online research, go to Google and type sleep disorders, sleep paralysis and you'll learn alot of information. Take Care!
