I've had it done. They used novacaine so other than the initial shot, it was no real biggie.

I have this done every time I visit the dentist. I take no medication for pain, I just do it. The dentist will stop if it hurts too much. My sister is a dental assistant and that's why I get the deep scale cleaning done. It's better in the long run cause tartar causes heart problems.

My dentist recommended a deep cleaning, the quadrant type, the hygienist came in and was done in ten minutes and charged me $800. did I get ripped off?

If you're referring to a periodontil (sp?) quadrant cleaning then yes I've had it done. It isn't as "hurtful" as it is tedious and time consuming. I have a small jaw opening and to keep my mouth opened for that period of time was what killed me. Other than that, it was well worth it and it helped me out tremendously.

It will hurt like hell if they don'y numb your gums first. They can soak some cotton rolls in anesthetic and sit these on your gums for a while first - that's what they did with me and I felt no pain.
