Well considering like you said it isn't what God wants us to do. Since most of the people masturbating are not thinking about their spouses while they are doing it. It might not say in the bible "thou shalt not touch themselves" but it does say something about having pure thoughts in everything and that "daydreaming" about your neighbors wife is considered adultery. If you do this in your mind it's the same as commiting the act. Don't ask what verse and where but I know I have seen and heard it before. My husband grew up addicted to pornography and although he remained a virgin (no physical sex between him and a woman) he did masturbate a few times daily. After we were married, it wasn't the same for him, he performed poorly because he was used to ol' Rosey, and it was easier for him. His masturbation caused big problems with our sex life. When I wanted to have sex he had already pleasured himself and didn't feel like it. Lovely!! I would just sit down with the child and tell him exactly what I have just said. It's all about self control, and honestly everyone should have a little bit of it. Just because he or she gets a thought does not mean that they have to run with it. God wants us to remain pure in all ways until marriage so that we can enjoy it to it's fullest with our mates. My husbands mother beat him when she found him masturbating. She never explained to him why it was wrong or anything she just beat him over and over again. Didn't stop him!! It might have made him think had she had handled the situation better. All children experiment with their bodies, they are curious. You just have to figure out how to handle it in a healthy way...and that doesn't mean you need to condone it. Best of wishes!!

Its not a sin the Bible never says that it is it actually says God prefers one to masturbate than to sleep around out of wedlock but since its your faith I would just leave them be and try not to catch them in the act they are kids and at least they are not out doing worse things be thankful.

Oh, by all means, punish him for an act that IS NATURAL AND TAKES PLACE IN MATURATION AND MOST OF THE WORLDS MALE DO..... Sure, humiliate him, tell him he's going to helll----- You will then be raising a freaky man who has sexual problems and usually ends up becoming some sort of offender.
Nice religion you have there......do you know the world is really spherical and the earth revolves around the sun????

That's touchy. In my opinion you should just sit them down and tell them why masterbation is wrong, have your pastor/priest/whatever speak with the child and tell them why it is wrong. However if you punish a child for finding their sexuality then you will hinder their sexuality in adult life and give them hang ups about a natural thing. You cannot tell me you've never masterbated nor fondled your partner at which point would also be considered wrong.

Since I do not partake of your faith nor do I beleive that materbation is a sin I can see no approriate "punishment" for a natural occuring behavior.

well nothing against your beliefs or anything, but if you punish them for masturbating, they may just rebel and go out and have sex. even though you may not believe this, masturbation is totally normal for a teen. why dont you just try talking to them about it and reminding them that in your faith, it is a sin and you would rather them refrain from doing it.

Don't punish them and don't try to catch them. Just keep an open dialogue about your beliefs. And if you do catch them (which I doubt you would) then explain to them why you believe it's inappropriate.

One's goal shouldn't be to "catch" them, but perhaps to help them understand the changes in their bodies. Are you helping your children understand the process of puberty? That is, after all, a beautiful and complex process that God has made for all of us.

I respect others beliefs, but I could never recommend something that is psychologically wrong. please, go read some studies from the American Psyc Association (apa.org).
don't ruin your kids. many bad things happen as result of parents punishing their kids for masturbating.
