The first place I would check with is your state's government Web site, and along those lines, individual states generally have pretty solid credit counseling programs that will help you.

If the state Web site says nothing, check with your County or City where you live, both their Web site and perhaps check in your phone book and call a few appropriate sounding offices, and ask around.

I could be wrong on this, but it's worth a shot.

Go to www.daveramsey.com & either get his book (Total Money Makeover), find one of his endorsed local financial counselors or find a Financial Peace class to take in your area. DH & I have been following his plan for more than 2 yrs. It is simple & it works as long as you do it. We read the book & listen to him online.
