There was no good reason. The best guess is that George W wanted to prove something to Daddy. The invasion of Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11 except that the US people were pissed off and wanted to strike out any direction. There was no intelligence of WSD in Iraq there certainly was in Pakistan, Iran, Libya and more. There was NO UN resolution to go to war with Iraq. As a matter of fact the US was vetoed and became a rogue nation along with the UK. The invasion had nothing to do with Saddam and the freeing of the Iraqi people, The US has backed and institute dictators many times before around the world. There is no good coming out of the US.

The conflict now is a sectarian civil war claiming thousands of civilians. Also living is very difficult because it is very difficult to get food ans shelter.

There is not a good reason. That is the problem no one used reason, we used emotion and fear. We came up with enough of an argument to convince the UN for a resolution. The US had some troops there and we were afraid of Iran, we had pushed Saddam around before and had good results. We got our asses kicked in Mogadishu. We never resolved a conflict and this administration thought that it could be done. We failed to get the guy that cause 9/11 and needed to show the world we could make a difference in peoples lives. The president wanted to give us a view of success. The reason is politics, and that is a small group of advisers. What they wanted to do was bring Saddam to accountability. I think the idea was planted when Saddam tried to kill President Bush in early 1991. The attempt was made in the country of Kuwait after the first conflict. The reason was Saddam was a menace in the region.

The main reason was because the US goverment believed they had intelligence that linked Saddam Hussein to terrorist networks and another reason was because we thought they have Weapons of Mass Destruction or were in the process of building nukes. Sine the early 90's, there had been a policy of containment that had jets flying over Iraq to see that nothing strange was going on and in 99 we sent cruise missile and bombed a suspected building where nukes were being made. That basically wiped out there whole nuke program and thus proved that we did not need to risk american lives and go invade iraq--bad idea. but 9/11 changed all that because that just gave us an excuse to attack saddamn--something we've been wanting to do sine the 1st gulf war. Overall it was a bad idea. instead we need to pull out of iraq--after finishing the job of course--and rebuild our forces because China is starting to build up its forces and wants to challenge the US for world supremacy. That is the real future conflict----TENSIONS BETWEEN THE EMPIRE OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA. BASICALLY, THE SECOND COLD WAR AND PERSONALLY I THINK WE WILL WIN JUST LIKE IN THE COLD WAR VS THE SOVIET UNION.

This is an great question that ought to be researched by every American. I was surprised by some of the facts surrounding the attacks on 9/11/2001.

There seems to be a huge vaccum of information. The mass media has not served the American people very well, and there seems to be an over abundance of conflicting ideas on the Internet. Fortunately, much of the information can be verified with some effort.

Let's look at the official reasons given by our leaders:

- Weapon's of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq threaten the world.
- Saddam was an evil dictator.
- Iraq is a safe haven for terrorists.
- Iraq government "supported" Al-Quea who in turn did a the "surprise" attack on major buildings in the US on 9/11/2001.

The only "fact" that seems to stand up to scrutiny is the idea that Saddam was an evil dictator. All of the other justifications listed above have been discredited by mass media throughout the world. (It seems like the Bush administration is losing friends everywhere.)

The U.S. has tolerated evil dictators in the past, so this begs the question:

Why did George W. Bush and others in the administration decide to attack and occupy Iraq?

There are some very scary scenarios that are described on the Internet. Here is a summary of several ideas that seem to be (to some extent) true:

- The CIA, military, and other clandestine organizations help U.S. corporations control the world economy and dominate trade in oil, finance, drugs, and weapons.

- Contol of Iraq helps assure the U.S. strategic control of rich oil reserves in the Middle East.

- War is a perfect cover for avoiding/defering economic issues and redistributing wealth toward the very rich.

- War allows the passage of laws that allow greater control of the population. (Just in case things go wrong and there is public reaction. Many Internet sites have claimed that GWB have violated international law because of certain orders related to the treatment of prisoners. He might also be culpable for misrepresentation of facts. Some sites claim that he could be tried by an international court.)

- Being somewhat hawkish is a good political position for senators and representatives in the US Congress regardless of party. By the way, this is not a partisan attack. Democrats are equally responsible.

It is time for us to learn the reasons for our occupation of Iraq and it is time for each of us to do what we can to restore civil rights, freedom, truth, and democracy to the United States.

Unfortunately, our mass media is 'gun shy' and usually takes the safe approach of reporting what is handed to them by the 'think tanks.' In the media, it is easy to get dismissed and discredited for having 'radical ideas.' Careers can be destroyed and it can be competitive and vicious.

Even political liberals have been careful not to diverge too much from the offical 'truth'. In contrast, I have the greatest respect for people like Physics Professor Steven Jones who has risked his career to asked tough questions about the apparent planned demolition of three WTC buildings on 9/11/2001. (By the way, the offical 9/11 commision report which is the 'official truth' has significant errors and omissions.)

I believe that the questions posed by Jones are the key to unravelling the truth about 9/11/2001.

Well, first the US was attacked on 9/11. So we declared a global war against terrorism. Our leadership thought it would be wise to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iraq in the interest of protecting the US. In the aftermath, there was no need for a strike, but the country is in such turmoil that we are still involved in the conflict to stabilize Iraq's government.

What I don`t get is that if 15 out of the 19 hijackers came from Saudi Arabia and their citizens today hold fundraisers for the insurgents in Iraq and we do nothing.

the reason was Osama Bin Laden originally. but when he could not be found, it was to finish what another man couldn't (pres. bush brining down saddam hussein).

the what is 9/11. which never should have happened.

the why originally again was Osama. now the reason is george w. bush and his thoughts of brining a democracy to a country that doesn't want it. so, in turn we now are fighting someone else's civil war.
