"Apotheose (griech. prefix apo ~ "far -, in distance", theós "God") is the collection of humans to a God or a half God or meant also only "glorification". It has its origin in the antiquity, when it was believed that personalities, that achieved large, to Gods will and like these could be admired and/or should."

and you know who Homer is, right?

Dalí was surrealist artist. It means that you have to use your mind and you have the freedom of interpreting of this picture. Use your imagination to read Apotheosis of Homer!

Some clues:
Dalí was influenced by Greek Art, HIstory and Mythology and some parts of the Odyssey (work of Homer) could be discovered on the painting.
In the Greek world few revered artists might be raised to the gods after death (it's apotheosis).

Dalí itself said that this is a detailed narration of the world of blind-people.

The painting was made in 1944 and there are only fragments on the pic - the whole world was alike in that time.

But the main thing what he said: "...just because I don't know the meaning of my art, does not mean it has no meaning..." S.D.
