No, Martin wasn't "robbed" @ Daytona... The fact is that NASCAR finally made the RIGHT CALL.. This is the way it should always be done on the last lap, as in not freezing the field. Now, NASCAR screwed up because this is very inconsistent with what they have done in the past. NASCAR needs to do things one way, and stick to it.. Whether we think it's right/wrong, NASCAR has to be CONSISTENT with EVERY RULING.. And this they can't do.. Never have, Never will... Either way though.. Martin wasn't screwed out of his Daytona 500 win.. He has had many chances to win it before, and who knows! He may get another shot @ it, as I believe he will. If they would have called it the other way around, You'd have all the Harvick and Earnhardt Sr. fans saying that he got screwed over by NASCARS decision. It's a lose/lose situation. The way I look @ it.. Congrats to Kevin Harvick for winning his first, and probably not last Daytona 500. And Better Luck Next time Mark! I was rooting for ya @ the end.. But that 29 Shell had a extra hand from above guiding it across the line!

I thought so until I reviewed the race finish on youtube. If you watch the footage, you will see that at the moment the wreck starts (and a few seconds after), Harvick is leading by a nose. Martin retakes the lead as they head through the tri-oval and Harvick retakes it again before the finish line. In my opinion (as a 15 year Mark Martin fan) whether NASCAR threw the flag or not, Harvick would have been the Daytona champion.

I also have to say that watching the tape again to see this has made me feel a whole lot better about the outcome. Watch it yourself and make your own judgement, I've already made mine. Asmuch as I would like to agree with you, I can't.

I think Martin was cheated out of a win so they could race to the finish line to make it more exciting, but the rule of freezing the field is a good one like it or not. maybe there was no danger in letting Marting and Harvick race to the end but what of the drivers behind or close to the wreck, until they throw the yellow all racers are still racing, how dangerous is that to keep racing through a wreck until Harvick and Martin cross the line. And how many others could have been hurt. My final thought is Martin made the remark about how everyone was crashing and no yellow came out, I wonder if Martin let off the gas for a second because of the wreck thinking there was gonna be a caution and when they didn;t he got back on the gas but to late. We all know that letting off the gas for a split second in this race you will lose momentum. Who's to say i wasn't in the car. but they do need to be more consisant with the rules.

Yes, Been a Nascar fan for almost 20 years, know it well. Nascar rules clearly states that when a yellow flag comes out, the field is frozen. Their is a multi-car wreck right on front of the officials and they didn't throw the yellow. Why, because it would have ruined the great finish. Nascar has no consistency what so ever and are making the rules up as they go. Was it an exciting finish, yes, but at what price. Nascar new thing about "making it exciting for the fans" has gone to far. They are making it exciting, but giving up their integrity. They said that from now on, no more racing to the line, the field is frozen when the yellow comes out. Question, you don't call not throwing the yellow for about 5 seconds after the wreck started until the leaders crossed the finish, not racing to the line. Oh, and Nascar also said that they didn't throw the yellow, because the cars that were wrecking were on the apron out of harms way. Clint Boyer crossed the start/finish line on his roof, need I say more. Someone on another site came up with a name for modern day Nascar and it couldn't be more true. "WWF Nascar." Bill France, Sr. would be rolling over in his grave if he could see what they are doing to Nascar.

Man Iv'e been a Martin fan scince the eightes. Don't bring that if Harvick's teammate decided to pony up for Harvick and give him the win don't insult that guys integrity, I doubt even Mark would go for that.

Second of all to you "new" NASCAR fan's your NASCAR is boring, I fall alseep watching it. The Daytona This Year was a close to real NASCAR as iv'e seen after Dale's Death. And I seriously hope it comes back. Days of Thunder wasn't popular cause people were stoked about , Lucky Dogs and Oh he Should be fined officals. Hell, the women in the pit have done more action than the sport in the last 5 years.

Absolutely not!! Harvick won fair and sqaure. NASCAR made the right decision by letting the leaders finish the race. The caution was behind them. Why freeze the field and give Martin something he did not earn? I know many fans think he should have won just beccause he has never won the 500, but a lot of guys in the top 10 have never won the 500. Each had their chance Sunday. Kevin Harvick pulled it off with a bang!! It was the best ending to a 500 in a long time!!

Well I guess I will put my 2 cents worth in too. I am a huge Mark Martin Fan! My whole family was pulling for him, but the race was won fair and square by Harvick (who by the way is one of my least favorite drivers). Mark was satisfied by the outcome and lets face it thats the way racin is at Daytona. If you got the draft you are ahead of the pack. I am certainly glad to hear he is going to run this race again in July. He has never been a fan of the larger speedways so how nice it was to see him just out there having fun again!!

I WANTED Martin to win. But Harvick did win fair mostly because Matt Kenseth pushed him. Martin was relying on Kyle Busch who tried cutting Harvick off to let Martin win then Busch either got loose or something and crashed. Then Kenseth crashed and Harvick just went flying on top. Martin was quoted for saying he wished they would've thrown the caution, but I would've kept going full speed if I was him. I wish Martin would've got it since he is not with Roush racing anymore. I would've been great.

even jimmy johnson thinks mark martin was shorted
http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?slug=ap-nascar-daytona-johnson&prov=ap&type=lgns
if they went by the rules written in pencil. martin wouldve been in the winners circle. but they did what they pleased. martin was wise not to cry about it. after all what fun is winning now that harvick got the celebration.
they point out taladega and pocono for examples.
so nascar still makes the rules as they go.
