There are many cakes that have redeeming value and even meringue frosting has value. Assuming that you don't have elevated glucose levels, white cake made with white flour, white sugar, and oil is not going to harm you if you don't eat more than your daily caloric requirements and eat enough protein, fruits and vegetables. I suggest you try carrot cake, banana cake or apple cake to satisfy you sweet tooth and nourish your body. Apple sauce can substitute for oil in many recipes.

It's not so much that cake is 'bad for you', but it's can certainly be fattening if you're a couch potato or someone who does not get much exercise on a daily basis. It also raises your blood sugar quite high which again you must do some sort of exercise to lower that sugar level back down. Not eating the icing reduces the blood sugar raising, but it still can be fattening if that's all you ate and don't exercise. If you didn't run around the building a couple of times after you ate those two huge pieces of cake, don't be surprised to see that you suddenly put on a couple of pounds.

no food is actually bad for you- it is the size of the serving.
If you ate 2 huge pieces of cake then yes that is bad for you. IF you ate a moderate piece ( 2" square ) then even with the icing it is not going to harm you.
I would just watch what I ate for the rest of the week.

Cakes are usually made with eggs and oil. Both are high in fat and cholesterol. Also, white cake is made with white flour -- processed foods have little to no nutritional value. So you are eating empty calories and your body is getting nothing out of it.

cake in and of itself is made of processed flour and processed sugar, and as such is high on the glycemic index and low on any actual nutritional value. so, sadly, yes cake really is that bad for you, icing or no...

Don't worry about it...
If you ate two huge pieces a day, then you should.... but once in awhile. Just enjoy it.

Icing is the worst part of it. All that's in it is pretty much shortening.
