I have had 3 children and have a great shape the only thing I can't stand it the stretch marks left on my stomach and was considering a sun tattoo or something to help hide.

Stretch marks are not the same as regular scar tissue. I have a huge tattoo on my right side- right smack on my love handle (i love my love handles). Granted my stretch marks were not large, dark or very deep... but my tattoo took just fine, and looks amazing- i think its my favorite. If you still aren't sure go to a tattoo shop locally with your design picked out, show them your patch of skin and ask what they think. If they are a reputable shop, they won' t lie to you.
But consider this- although we don't live in a society where stretch marks are consider a beautiful thing - they are, they are such an amazing part of who you are, and your bodies story. Really think about if you want to have something that beautiful covered. Good Luck- either way, it will be great.

You CAN tattoo scar tissue, but there are a few possible problems. Tattoos over scar tissue risk a blow out of the ink. It makes edges a little fuzzy, but it can be fixed up if it happens, and it's usually not a big deal.
Just make sure you've done what you can to minimize the stretch marks (Which I'm sure you have if they bother you that much). I had some work done on my breast where I have stretch marks and it turned out just fine.

I have my stretch marks tattooed, and it took very nicely, and it really does help hide them a bit. My suggestion to you is to find an artist that is familiar with scar work, and ask to see other tattoos that he has done on skin like yours. I am lucky, because the guy at my shop specialized is scar work and cover ups.

Gotta disagree here - I am going in tomorrow to get the finishing touches on my tattoo. A tattoo that starts on my tummy. A tummy covered in stretch marks caused by my 3 sons. -FYI...I don't have a great shape...unless round counts ;)

The stretch marks will swell more than regular skin, but you can tattoo them. I got the tattoo and it makes me feel great about my stretch marks. They are badges of honor, but the tattoo can either highlight them, or draw attention away. Either way...I think its a good idea.
Attached photos of my tattoo in progress (you can see my stretch marks no problem...sigh).

Not to mention putting some ink on a place that you don't like is not the right answer. Why draw more attention to a place you are clearly uncomfortable with?
