If you're trying to get rid of fat in your cooking, you can use apple sauce instead of vegetable oil... Of course, the cake will come out differently.

The oil adds to the texture, tenderness and moisture of the cake. The applesauce is an attempt to do that.

If you don't have vegetable oil, then any other type of liquid oil should work. Avoid the strong tasting oils like olive oil.

I think that you can use applesauce in place of vegetable oil. It may change the moisture or texture of the cake, but it should work.

Use one stick of real butter per cake mix. It really adds to the flavor!

others:
*sub 1/2 of the water for buttermilk or sour cream
* add a few drops of almond extract
*add an extra egg and small box jello instant pudding

I don't like using oil either. Instead I use applesauce! Yep it works, it's less fat, and it is super moist! You can use the same amount as called for using oil. Good Luck

Canola oil is nearly the same as vegetable oil. I do it all the time, without thinking twice.

You can use 1 cup of mayonaise instead. You can't taste it in the cake and it makes it really moist.

All fruits are fresh vegetables. A "vegetable" is a plant, any part of which is employed for food.

In the superstore, fruits are usually selected far too soon. Some are rocks, many are bad. Some of the fresh vegetables are typical right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.
