If Pontius Pilate had ordered that Jesus be beheaded instead of being hanged on the cross, would you wear an axe with Jesus' headless corpse next to it instead of the crucifix on a chain around your neck?

I agree with you, I am a christian but I see the cross as a sing of death, not of Jesus. The cross is just like an axe, or a sword or a bomb, it is not a sing of peace, life or God. The cross was the main way of execution in Jesus' day and if people wore it then, others would see it in the same way as we do when some one wears a gun or a scull on a necklace.

There are some other symbols of Christianity (the Ichthus for example) , but I feel no need to use them. Christianity is spiritual, not physical, so we should not have a need for physical things in the religion, especially not one which represents death.

ofcourse. why not? Except the prophesy of Jesus' bones staying intact in spite of brutal torture would have to have never been foretold, because that would prove it false. This ofcourse was not the case. Jesus fulfilled every prophesy about him, save only those regarding his return to earth.

the cross was the pride of Roman torture techniques, however. beheading Jesus would not really be much of a payment for the sins of the world. Ofcourse, the real pain that Jesus went through had to do with taking on all those sins as His own.

Beheading is more the Islamic style of killing people even in recent days.

Jesus fulfilled the prophecy from the Old Testament in
Psalm 22:11-18 ....they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing."

in a time crucifixion didn't take place

Christians I'm proud of you! for staying calm. Obviously a Muslim that doesn't honor Christ.

1. I don't wear crosses or crucifixes.
2. Jesus hanging on a cross (not being stoned or drowned or beheaded, etc.) was a direct fulfilment of an ancient Old Testament prophecy.

god bless

If you know the reason why Pontius Pilate wash his hand before giving Jesus out way's to the Jew's, you will be able to answer this your own self. Will you think the same of Jhon?

I don't think he really had a choice in the matter....Crucifixion was a roman thing that they had been doing for hundreds of years. He was warned by his wife who had a dream about it to have nothing to do with Jesus.....after that his career plummeted.

I wear a cross but as a reminder to me about my savior.

Beheading was not a customary Roman method of execution for political criminals.

Of course, we could always discuss what religion *does* use beheading, even up to this day.

I don't want to be mean. But your question is funny. If Christ was beheaded. I would wear a picture of him. Not the way he died. It would scare little children. Yeah, I know that crucifiction is scary too, but a head w/out a body is scarier.

I do not and will not wear a cross and it sickens me to see anyone else wearing one. I wonder how God feels about being reminded over and over of the disgraceful way his son had to die when he was guilty of nothing at all except loving all of us more than he loved himself.

Wow!! Thank you for making me think about that. Seems ridiculous to wear a piece of jewelery commemorating an event of such horror. But then again, like they say on the Simpson's 'thank god we worship a simple carpenter who lived 2000 years ago.' Hee Hee
