My hair is a mid-dark brown hair colour. I have only dyed it once before, and i want to go a light to medium brown.

To give you more an idea about my hair colour, its sort of the same colour as anne hathaway's from devil wears prada, but a bit lighter, and i want it to be the same colour as sort of mischa barton colour, but a bit darker.

So, really, i am only going a few shades lighter. I don't want highlights, i want the whole of my head done.

Do you reckon i could do it at home? Or should i go to a salon? I'd rather to it at home, but the thing is i don't know whether my hair needs to be stripped first, because if so i don't want to that myself. Also does anybody think there is any danger whatsoever of my hair going ginger??

If i'm going to do it, can i just use semi-permanent?

My hair bleaches naturally in sunlight, but i still want it dyed.

Any advice more than welcome!!

Hope you can help!! Thanks :]

Xxx

Hi as i am use to dyeing my hair, i am going to do my best to help you. If you want to get your hair lighter you cant use a blonde or very light brown on top of your hair, you could probably bleach it with Jerome Russel powder bleach and 40% hydrogen peroxide. But then you dont want it really blonde, you could do this then dye it a light brown but if the colour doesnt take or goes orange you which you will get with a pre lightener anyways, but if it goes light with the Bblonde then you will get a more even colour when you use the hair dye of your choice but if you use a pre lightener it could go patchy, but it doesnt really matter if you are going darker. But i would suggest you use Loreal hair dye the ones that are for dark hair to make it lighter. Its not a bleach its a hair dye that jkust lightens the shade you have now. I tried one a while ago when i had dark hair and i wanted it lighter and i knew that the bleach wouldnt work. So i used this and it didnt go orange either. It will show you on the box before and after. I know you say your hair is lmid brown but if its a lighter mid brown than most you might get a lighter colour which will look really nice.
I wouldnt start bleaching even prelightning is bleaching i would just leave it to grow or fade oout which it will eventually. You will end up in the same boat as me with all different coloured hair that woint highllight and i have to keep it dark. So i would just suggest you either try the hair dye or firstly use timmotei copper highlight for brown hair its wonderful and if you wash your hair with it 2 times each time you wash it it will look like you have had your hair highlighted trust me it works on the colour your hair is now. But dont use pantene expressions is rubbish, Nousrish the hair dont de nourish.

I use this 10 minute hair color from Revlon and I absolutely love it. Now, my hair is a few inches past my shoulder and one box can usually take care of all my hair, but I think you should get two just to be on the safe side. They have wonderful browns. I just went from almost a bleach blonde (also the 10 minute Revlon hair color) to a dark chocolate brown and it is WONDERFUL! I didn't have to do any in between colors either. I've gone both lighter and darker with this stuff and its so easy! Just make sure you look on the box on the front where it says in bold 10 MINUTE HAIR COLOR or something like that. I've used this stuff for a few years and I love it.

Do it at hom it a lot cheaper. Then if it does go wrong go to the hairdressers, but i have been doing my own hair for years and my friends still think its done at the hairdressers.

to go lighter you need to use a permanant dye that contains peroxide it doesnt matter how light you want to go if it doesnt have peroxide in it it wont work how you want it to.
