Anyone used it? Have an opinion?
I'm coming from New Jersey so I would go to New York Penn then probably on subway to Jamaica Station to pickup the Air Train. I need to be at the airport about 8pm on a Friday night in the summer so I'm thinking mass transit is the best way to go as opposed to having someone drive me.

I'm a Californian who uses the AirTrain going out to JFK in mid-afternoon. It works fine, but I would allow extra time late on a Friday afternoon. I take the Lexington Ave. IRT south to Nassau Street in the Wall St. area, then transfer to the AirTrain.

However, I like Mr. Danger's suggestion alot b/c you can purchase your AirTrain ticket in Penn Station and not have to deal with getting the right ticket at the subway station. I have watched overseas visitors at JFK trying to deal with getting out of the elevated without the correct ticket. Not nice.

Use the Long Island Rail Road From Penn Station To Jamaica Station It will cost you $7.00 and take about 20 minutes and at that hour of the day trains are going to Jamaica about every 3-4 minutes
When you buy the LIRR ticket at the LIRR ticket counter also get the AirTrain ticket
The subway takes too long and at that hour it's going to be really crowded

You can also take the A train from 34th street all the way to JFK. It might take a little longer, but you won't have to go to Jamaica this way. Give yourself LOTS of time. The A train is fast, but it's still a long way from Manhattan.
