I work for tyson now in Oklahoma. I am not going to condone an illegal workforce, but I will say that a lot of things that people take for granted have to be produced somehow. It is virtually impossible to get any sort of workforce in some of the places that Tyson has plants. In order to go to the store and be able to buy a package of steaks for 10$ cheap labor has to come from somewhere. Hispanics are largely recruited for their work apptitude and willingness to endure the long hours of work for minimal amounts of pay that other ethic groups will not withstand. The positions that these types of employees fullfilll are dirty, mind-numbing, with very little reward...except for a marginal pay that is a few dollars an hour above minimum wage. For most standing in one place most of the day and staring at cuts of beef/chicken/pork all day and trying to move and rotate to prevent your hands and upper extremities from going numb from the cold or the 10 thousandth cut you have made into an animals carcass is a reality they have to face. It is only up to the employer to ensure that the Team Member has legitimate documentation, if they do not and fake their work records...it is them who has commited the crime and should be prosecuted. Tyson does their part in document examination....but the illegal workforce is a reality and it is impossible to prove or disprove that a person really is who they represent themselves as being short of a DNA test. If the documentation is good then that is where the goverment draws the line. I would say that if employers are knowingly hiring illegals with bad paperwork it should be on them......(which has happened in the past...with tyson) but if the paperwork is good...the person representing themself should be the one responsible.

There are TWO culprits in illegal immigration (and only one gets talked about) -- the people who break the law by coming here and the people who make this possible by hiring them.

Instead of building fences (which won't work anyway), I wish legislators would read your question. HEAVY, HEAVY fines on places that employ illegal aliens would seriously deter them from hiring them in the first place. Maybe Tyson's should have to pay to deport every illegal they're caught employing! That'd make them think twice before breaking the laws of the U.S.

BTW, if your local law enforcement won't help you, call ICE's federal office directly and report the problem. At least then it'll be on record as having been reported!

I know man power comes cheap when it comes down to illegals. But I don't think the illegals are at fault here. These people who hire illegals know pretty damn well what they are doing and that's called making a (profit). Even if you have enough manpower to go around you are not getting the jobs that illegals are getting because of the low wages they get paid, who wants to work for minimum wage? Illegals don't even like minimum wage but the truth of the matter is that they don't have a choice. And if the choice exist it is a long process and illegals can't afford to wait around all day for the Immigrations Services to do their job on a timely manner. They have families just like everyone else, and as far as i"m concerned that matters allot. Lets not place the whole of the blame on illegals. One word Government.

The Light ... I'd say they should be brought up on charges. I've heard about this in the news and they apparently have a very large number of illegals working in their plants. To have so many illegals seems to indicate a pattern of indifference. Tyson was obviously hoping to get away with it by simply looking the other way.

Tyson's practice is not proper, of course.

Meat packing plants are the poster child for promoting an illegal workforce. They have replaced thousands of hard working American workers with illegals. That being said, other industries have followed the same strategy to lower wages and expectations of their workers. Get behind legislation to enforce immigration laws by mandatory background checks of all workers. Any company trying to cheat should be punished SEVERLY! Those who really want things to stay the same advocate border fences and other ineffective measures. Background checks for citizenship would stop illegals pronto!

I believe that the companies and managers who hire illegal aliens should be held responsible.

I do not mean a nominal fine either; I think they should be treated like drug dealers. Their plants should be confiscated and they should be put in prison for a long time. believe when one of these CEO's and plant managers went to jail and stockholders saw their plants being taken away they might get the hint.

Americans might even be willing to work in the plants again as I did when I was in college. That option is not available to my son due to the illegals. I stayed in the industry for 20 years and I can tell you that it is in every meat company.

Of course they should, along with all the other company's doing the same thing .Its a national disgrace to see this going on all over this nation in direct defiance of the federal felony law that such actions violates. Stop the unscrupulous employer's and you will help stop illegal aliens.Make the company's PAY.

Any company or employer who hires illegals should be fine with a huge amount of money. Ther are americans and legal residents willing to take those jobs at a reasonable rate.

They should be jailed for hiring the illegal alien criminals. This goes for ALL employers.

When they say the illegals "do the work that Americans won't do" they are full of crap.

Hmm. Heads up. Well, the bastards seem to be indirectly(or directly) promoting human smuggling. What do you think? I have first hand knowledge however that IN FACT they have about 400 of them over here.
