Depending on your lifestyle, this may actually be more expensive (and is definitely more important) than a house or car choice. Many people don't usually think about it, but college. Yes, higher education. Though the cost is accrued over time, it is a very expensive decision. By using what I've been paying at Clemson University over the last 4 years, let's look at this. I've paid over $50,000 for my college education so far (tuition, books, housing, meal plans, etc.). That's a lot of money - and I still have another year, lol! And, that assumes that I pay everything in cash (which, I assure you, I do not). If you factor in interest on the loans you take out, the amount exponentially grows. Going to a private institution? You'll pay close to double or at least 50% more than at a public university.

However, if you choose not to go to college you must also factor in the loss of potential income later in life (which seriously adds up when you're looking at 6 figures a year versus 5). Ah, opportunity costs...
