10 years? Are you sure it is head lice? You might want to get a doctor's opinion, and not just you ordinary doctor. I really don't know what to tell you if she's had it for that long then either it's not lice or it has something to do with her environment.

I have had a constant battle with headlice and my children becoming reinfected after they have been clear. I have tried all the lotions and potions up to date, Then a friend told me about the nitty gritty comb. It is fantastic and there are no chemicals involved. I was sceptical at first, but it is the best £9.99 I have spent. You just put loads of conditioner on the head and comb it through (wet). It works because the prongs of the comb are really close together and each one has slats in it that trap anything in the hair whether it is nits or lice. You can but it online or from some chemists, they also do a repellent spay. The comb has a lifetime guarantee, if you break it just return it and they send you a new one. I use it weekly and the lodgers have now gone! I also spray a small amount of hairspray on their hair daily as lice don't like chemically treated hair.....I think that this is better than them getting bitten from the lice!..I don't work for Nitty Gritty!! But I was at the end of my tether and frustrated as I was spending a fortune just to send them back to school and they got them again! Good Luck I hope that this helps!!!

You local pharmacy should be able to advise about the best chemical preparation for killing the. If you don't like the idea of chemicals daily use of mild shampoo + conditioner followed by head lice comb. It's also a good idea to treat the whole family at the same time as there a risk you could be re-infecting each other.

i take it your daughter is still at school? no matter what you do you'll never fully eradicate them unless all the other parents are doing the same, all your hard work could be ruined by one neglegent person. in the meantime to keep them seriously in check, the best thing to do is use a nit comb daily, and wash the hair in tea tree oil shampoo. a lot of the medicated shampoos have become useless as the lice have built up a resistence to them, so it's down to patience and perseverence i'm afraid.

Try Hedrin - it is AMAZING! It doesn't smell and you can see the lice dropping out after you apply it! Just make sure you do another application a week later to get the nits too.

I work with kids and if the shampoo's from the store are not working I have heard either mayonnaise or Vaseline. It supposedly suffocates them...but good luck getting it out. If it saves the hair though, I learned about this after cutting my 11 year old sons almost waist length hair.

As an aromatherapist I would recommend Tea Tree, add a few drops to conditioner and comb through hair, this would act as a preventative
