my 3.5 y/o seems to love climbing on me...for some reason. He also likes some stencil books we found at a garage sale. He can draw "real" pictures with them. He will draw for hours. They are by Tormont Publications Inc, Canada.
He likes to build forts, like someone mentioned before. He likes to make a "slide" out of his top matress, by putting one part on the floor, and letting one end stay up in the air...he climbs up and rolls down. He loves to help cook, so he helps make cookies/brownies etc. and dinner.
He has been read his books sooooo many times, he knows the story by heart, so I read, then he makes up a story by looking at the pictures.
Also, I draw the letters of the alphabet using dots (like connect-the-dots pics) and he draws the letters like that. He can write all his letters now, and we are working on sounding our spelled out words. I open a blank microsoft word document, and let him type letters and words - I spell them out and he hunts and pecks the letters - this one is REAL helpful when you are trying to do something - clean, laundry, cook because you don't have to be hands on, and he is not just watching TV.
He loves his bicycle (w/ training wheels). He likes to 'measure things and fix them" using my tools.
I try really hard to make games out of learning...like the spelling/drawing. But, also, I like for him to go play by himself &/or with his little sister so they get some independence, imagination, problem solving etc. That is how they came up with the bed-slide.

Here are some things my children love to do:
Sock Puppets, we make puppets then use them to do stories.
Letters, I will print off the internet or even draw traceable letters on paper and have them trace them out and try to write on their own.
Treasure Hunts, I take a small box and put something I know they will love in it ($, piece of candy or gum), and hide it somewhere. I will then draw a map for them to find it.

Pretending with puppets and a childs play kitchen are pretty fun for them. Let them make you something with the play food. My daughter likes to make me crabby patties.
