cats that puke for fun?

Question

i have a cat that is about 5 months old and she pukes up her food and it is usually still whole. then she eats it. but she isnt sick and doesnt show signs of being sick. called the vet and he said that sometimes cats just puke to puke. what do you all think? any ways to maybe get her to stop?

i have 5 other cats. there is never not food out in this house. none are fat though..they only eat what they need at the moment. all my cats eat at different times in the day. ots weird...my other cat would puke sometimes and eat it afterwards but she only did it sometimes. diablo doesnt have that long of hair but i do brush her everday and all my cats have hairball control food.

It sounds like your cat isn't vomiting, she is regurgitating. Your vet could be correct in that she just does it on occasion. She could be eating too fast, or there could be underlying causes of it. If you don't feel comfortable with your vet's answer, find another vet for a second opinion. There is no way to get her to stop until you find out why she's doing it in the first place. If it is because she is eating too fast, put a tennis ball in her food, or feed her small amounts at a time.

Firstly, have her examined for worms/.
Secondly, a kitten or kitty that feels rushed may eat too fast, causing them to barf. then, still being hungry, try to eat again.

This happens ALOT in rescued cats and kittens that were at one time starving and never knew where their next meal was coming from.... also, if you have another cat, kitty might feel like she better hurry up or the other cat may take her food.... then eats too fast and then gets sick.
In any event, cats do not "puke for fun".... that is a misnomer.
The third issue, which could be serious, is that she could have an intestinal blockage, which could be fatal. if she is not using her litterbox, and not pasing solids, get her checked by a vet ( preferably another one that does not say cats puke for fun.... ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to find a new vet. Cats don't just puke for the heck of it. She may be eating too fast. Try feeding her smaller portions at a time. Maybe give her half her food, wait a few minutes, and give her the rest.

It is definetely because she is eating too fast. Try not to forget to feed her, because if they get hungry they'll want to gulp the food down. When I take a little long to feed mine, I usually put the plate down, let her eat a little bit, then wait some minutes to give it back to her. I know it sucks but mine's been doing this for all 8 years, she should be fine. Keep a look out though for other signs, such as crying, or not wanting to eat afterwards, just in case.

My cat does the same thing most likely due to eating too fast.

Here is some advice....

Find some large rocks/stones (at least 2 inches in diameter) and mix them in with her food. She will be forced to pick through her food to find out what is real and what is rock. It will force her to slow down.

That doesn't sound normal to me at all. She may have a digestive order that isn't "showing" yet. If it isn't furballs, I think you should have the vet take a look. PLEASE report Jack O. Check his avatar & look at some of his horrid answers. I don't see how you could "get her to stop." Maybe you need another vet.
