The worst one I've ever been to was a Southern Baptist service. I don't appreciate being screamed at and told that I'm going to hell in every other sentence.

I've experienced boring, but not really all that bad. It is a very rare occasion I've ever experienced anyone passing the collection plate more than once. A few times it was for a special event, but I seem to remember once an over-zealous church I never went back to again.
I've always loved the singing in Church and sometimes liked the sermons. I really loved the "fellowship" (visiting) before & after services.
I really miss church, but would feel hypocritical if I went today. I am no longer a "christian" by most definitions.

Everytime I've been to a new church service, meaning something different then my own, I've actually found them very interesting, even if they were in a different language, but that could just be the curious side of me. If you're focused and have a purpose for being there they never turn out that bad. Because I'm Mormon, I must say many of their meetings are pretty boring, and I've actually fallen asleep. They're nothing like the rock band one's I attended a few times up in Seattle.

The last one I ever got conned into going to. It was a holler roller mega church. The damn service must have lasted for 3 hours or more. The entire sermon was about giving money to the church and how evil heathens are that they could not stand to be in the presence of "True Christians" (I had to snicker to myself because I was setting in the front row and I am a Heathen, even wore my Thor's hammer that day). They did the whole casting out demons thing and talking in tongues, I just set there looking at my watch thinking these people are nuts.
The preacher was decked out in gold and diamonds, it was so obvious he was in it for the money. They pasted a collection plate around 10 damn times!
Their music was horrible even by Christian standards. It was like being at a concert with the amphiers (sp?) turned up way too loud and horribly repetitious music. If I had known what type of church my friend had invited me to, I would have brought ear plugs.

Hot: I feel for you ! As a Christian, I would say that I once, attended a church service, steeped in legalism and sat between 2 extremely over weight women, in temperatures of + 95 degrees F (35 C degrees) with sweat running down my body, listening to some guy expound from the pulpit "signs of the end of this world" - for 3 and 1 half HOURS !!! And just to think that you are "HOT" Carl Sagan !!! I hate religion but subscribe to spirituality !!!

The worst I ever went to was a Jehovah Witness funeral for my mom. They didn't say hardly anything about my mom, what she did in the congregation or what (and she'd done a TON for the sick and poor ones there). The whole thing was a commercial for their church and their theology, with a coupla songs and a prayer throwed in to make it sound good.
The *BEST* I went to was a funeral at an African -American church. They talked about the PERSON, and how their life reflected glory to god and different ones got up and shared a special moment of memory they had about the deceased. Yes, they talked about god and the hope and all, but it was an honor for the person, a celebration of their life. I loved it.

I once attended a Baptist service where the preacher stood at the front of the crowd and ranted on and on about how all the other churches were deceptions of SATAN and that everyone in the curch should go out and convert everyone they could...by force if nessecary.
Near the end of the service, he asked for people to "speak the Lord's Word". Various people jumped up one at a time and spouted off dogmatic nonsense to an enthusiastic crowd. A woman right next to me decided to spring up and scream that "Alcohol was the Devil's work!" Thunderous applause.
I don't drink, but in that moment I'd wished I'd had a beer in my hand.
In my defense, the girl who lured me to the service was very pretty. (I found out later that the attractive members of the church were expected to snare lonely nerds like me and bring them on a "date" to the church with the intent to convert. A very nasty trick to play on someone who'd never been on a date in their life before.)
I also made the mistake of going to one of my father's Mormon services. It was as boring as a Catholic mass...with the added idiocy of contorted and fabricated history. I'd just spent that week in Native American History classes at my High school, and the claims of the Mormon church about them were so far from reality that I walked out near the end. Never went back.

lol (what church was that? I want details, man!)
I hope they were collecting fruit or socks for the homeless as well...
I think the worst svc I went to was at a church when I went to a huge church in S.F. and 3 folks were preaching but weren't making sense. No Bibles anywhere to found and on the way out, you can pick up a sterile hypodermic needle.
Freaky.

The only one I've ever been to.
When I was a kid, the church I was in had streaks on the windows and the place was just falling apart. There was so much dust in there that I sneezed constantly - I was miserable with allergies. I always had to have tissues. My mother allowed me to wait outside until church was over. And the guy talking spoke in a monotone voice. It was all so boring.
*shudders* Nightmares...
