When I got married last year, I had the minister send in the request for the certified copies of the marriage certificate when he sent it in to be registered. I enclosed a check for 2 copies.
Once you get the copies, go to the SS office, take your birth certificate with you. I had to wait until I got my new card to do much else. I went to the DMV and had it changed (take the marriage cert with you, too).
After that, I had to inform my employer, and they verified my SS had changed online and then changed my name at work. I didn't have to supply them with anything, since they can verify it themselves.
I called most of my credit cards and was able to change them easily, without any proof. One made me send them a copy of the marriage license, but not the certified copy. I pay my bills online, so I don't actually send them back the bill. If you pay using the bill, just change your information on the bill, there is usually a place to do that, and send it to them. If they need more, they will contact you and let you know.
Don't forget to change your name on subscriptions, your health care provider, any life insurance companies, and also, don't forget to change your beneficiary!

Well when you get married and you have your marriage certificate that you give to the preacher to fill out and send in to the courts. You will be mailed two certified copies of your marriage license in the mail. You need to take a one to the social security office and let them make their own copy. DO NOT LET THEM HAVE THE ORIGINAL! Then you need to go to the Drivers license bureau and have it changed on your license and again they will just need to see the certified copy of your marriage certificate and then everything should be complete. You can change your name on your bills at any given time. So I wish you the best of luck and CONGRATS!

Driver's Liscenes
Social Security
Your Employer
Credit Cards
Bills/Phones/Sewer
At your School
Most of the time you need to have your marriage certificate to do anything, and then you need to have a copy of a valid ID in your old name and new name for the social security office

I recommend doing the Social Security change FIRST. They are more picky than others...
Social Security
Drivers License
Banks (accounts, loans, credit cards, etc.)
Employer - payroll/benefits (they will need a copy of your updated SScard)
Miscellaneous accounts - online subscriptions, doctors office, household bills, email - while you don't need to provide a marriage license to do this, it is a good time to update everything at once.

You have to change your name with:
Social Security
Your employer
Your bank (order new checks)
Your credit card companies
Notify any company you have loans with
Your school (if you are still in college)
DMV (drivers license and car registration)
Passport (if applicable)
Mortgage company or landlord if you lease/rent
Utility companies
Health Insurance
Car Insurance
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Anyone you do business with where you have to sign your legal name. It's a pain...

Driver's License
Social Security
Those are the two main ones. A certified copy of the marriage license should do what you need it to do.
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

im in the same boat..kind of.
i just got married friday, and i asked this question a while back, i was told to start with your social security card, seeing as you need that to change everything, you will need form SS-A. then you need to get your lisece changed (bring your wedding liscence)
then you go to your bank, if you have an account, and then credit cards, they do things online where you pay like 30$ and it does it all for you, you just fill out the forms i think, (i didnt do it) but that site is
misstomrs.com i belive
you can also type in "change name" on google.com and most sites will pop up
good luck

You will need to take your marriage license, birth certificate and picture id and go to the Social Security Administration office. You also will want to go to the Dept of Motor Vehicles with your licenses (marriage and driver) and in our state we needed our birth certificate.

Be careful...you can actually change your name legally..which means it changes on your birth certificate...or you just assume his last name.
(which is what most people do)...
make it alot easier and keep your maiden name, I wish I had of.
good luck.
