lol, well actaully they say a year is ok time, or you could be like me, we never actually got engaged, we jsut kinda threw in the towel and got married, we did a justice of the peace, just a really formal one, i mean we had the suits the wedding dress, everything. I got a GREAT dress from Ross, it was $40. Being as it was around prom, it was a white dress, and while checking out, everyone actually said "what a great wedding dress" i mean, it looked like the real deal. I'd say call around diffrent counties on trying to get the marriage lisece, some places they cost diffrent. i live in south carolina, and got mine for $40, but in Charleston, it would have costed me $75...
Also, wal-mart has wedding invitations where they have nice designs, and there blank, all you do is type them up, so i mean they come out just as fancy as if you got them made by a "professional"

You have a nice time to have a wedding. First find the place, see when the place is available. Think about the theme colors of the wedding, Look for a dress, think about what flowers you want. get all magiznes for ideas.. The 3 things for the wedding is Place for ceremony and recipetion place and dress. those are very important and if the flowers you like will be in bloom that time year. Just sit back and think about what YOU really want and not anybody else... ( maybe your guy)

I actually just got engaged to and the wedding is set for June of next year. I have been having the same issues with the cutting the cost things since he and I are having to pay for a majority of it by ourselves. My best advise is to make sure you get your dress soon. It usually takes a while to get it back not to mention if alterations are needed. And now is really a good time to start looking because most dresses are going to start going on sale soon.

I've heard from lots of people that the longer you take to plan, the more expensive it becomes. You keep thinking you NEED things and adding them to all of your planning.
I planned a huge wedding for 300 people with just the help of my mom in three and a half weeks and it was perfect. Only cost me $5000 including the reception, flowers, cake and my dress! Just don't go wild and you'll be fine.

your safe, I will be engaged a year when I get married next month and its workin out fine, I went through a pretty big dead spell between about 9-5 months before because I had everything booked and taken care of and their just wasn't much I could do until it got a little closer!
as far as how to cut corners, shop around! Ebay has saved my life, you go to bridal boutiques and can pay up to $200 for a tiara, i paid $20 for mine on ebay, same for my rhinestone monogramed cake topper, $80 everywhere else, $40 on ebay!
I am wearing my moms veil, we took it off the horrible head piece it was on and stitched it onto a simple comb and so that saved mega bux their b/c veils are unbelieveably expensive, plus its extra sentimental!
Instead of a lot of elaborate flower arrangements, we are going kinda gardeny with lots of columns that you can rent inexpesively with ferns on top and sheer fabric draped around them, with lots of plants and candles and christmas lights, we will do the whole stage at my wedding for what 1 arrangement would have costed!
do a buffet instead of sit-down meal, and if you have an afternoon reception, you can get away with heavy hors d'orves instead of a full meal, for centerpieces consider candles or a single floating daisy or even fruit in your colors piled nicely onto pretty platters.
Prioritize, think do you have to have napkins printed with your names or can you skip that and find plain ones in your color scheme?
you can make your own invites or I had really good luck with now-and-forever.com, good stuff at great prices! Also, if you are gonna do responce cards, instead of the ones you order that come with envelopes that you have to pay full postage on, consider printing your own on the postcard kits you can find at any office supply store or wal-mart, use microsoft word to print them on one side with the responce line and the other side with your return addy, and a post card stamp that is 15 cents cheaper a piece than a full stamp will get it back without a hitch! I did 150 for $37.50, almost a third of what it was gonna cost me to order them!
Have a good friend take engagement pics instead of having your photographer do that and develop them yourself....my little sis took ours and I have had several people ask who my photographer was based just on that!
You can have a great wedding without going to far in debt, mine is for 175-200 people and its only costin $5000!

Do a lot of it yourself - decorations, invitations, etc.
I found the following site to be most helpful to me www.theknot.com as it has a budget planner, payment tracker, guest list, website that I could create for my own use, coupons, etc.
Congratulations and good luck!
