Whatever meaning you give to it.

You are actually asking two different questions:

1. What is the purpose of life?
2. What is the meaning of life?

By way of example -- if I hold up an empty water balloon and ask you what it's purpose is, the most basic answer is 'water transportation via aerial mode.' That's all the purpose is -- it is a reason for existing. If it is sitting on a shelf in a store, it has that purpose, if it's in my hand filled and ready to go, it has that purpose.

Meaning, however, is something that is ascribed to an object. I fill such a balloon with water so that I can tag my mother during the next family reunion summer-fun party. That is now its meaning -- joy and playfulness. It did not have that meaning on the store shelf. There, at the store, its meaning was profit -- the owner of the store hoped someone would buy it and thus the owner would make profit off it.

So to go back to your questions -- what is the purpose of life? It has none. To have a purpose means that an intelligent being must have created it. Purpose is an intended direction, a best-suited direction, and life has no creator nor an intended direction. Life is inherantly purposeless.

What is the meaning of life? Because we are self-aware, even in acknowledging the purposelessness of life, we can ascribe a meaning to it. For many people, this meaning is little more than that they hope to live day by day. Some people make religion their meaning, others knowledge, others intentionally make hate or cruelty their meaning -- no one said all meaning has to be good. It just gives us a reason to wake up in the morning and defy our purposelessness.

The ultimate Answer to the Meaning of Life can be found in the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible. Ironically, the book focuses on how meaningless life actually is:

"The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher, "Vanity of vanities! All is vanity."

However, right at the end, the Big Reveal or the Big Payoff is provided:

"The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil."

So, there you have it. Fear God and keep His commandments.

What is the Ultimate Law to keep as you fear God? The Law that covers all of God's Laws?

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul and all your strength; and love your neighbor as yourself.

And, most importantly, accept Jesus as your Lord, Savior and Master to receive the Gift of Eternal Life. This enables you to have meaning in this life and in the afterlife as well.

Jesus Christ- We were all born into sin, since the fall of adam and eve, and we all need forgiveness- (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23) for sin leads to death, which is hell.
But salvation in Christ Jesus leads to life in heaven (Romans 5:8-9)
He died on the cross, so we who believe and repent could live- could be set free from the bondage of sin, and be given new hearts, and new lives in Christ Jesus. For sin must be forgiven through the shedding of blood...and that is why Christ was the one sacrifice, He took our place---and we should of been the ones to die. Hebrews 9:22
Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

-The law, shows us our sin--it is a mirror to our sin, showing us we need God. Because we have all broken His laws, at least one of them. And only one sin will keep you eternally separated from God after this life and during this life! There is no greater joy than the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. He is the only way, truth and life and no one comes to the Father but through Him- John 14:6
He is the meaning, He is the reason WE LIVE! Those who put their trust in Him, will know full well the meaning of life and it's fullest...to know Christ, and to know we are set free from our own deserving payment of hell. Christ loved us that much! He died on the cross and rose again 3 days later, just as God said: And this was the plan from the beginning, John 1:1
Jesus says:
John 11:25
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,

True faith and spirituality are essential for a full and happy life. (Matthew 5:3) If you use the Bible to gain an intimate knowledge of Jehovah and of his purpose for mankind and the earth, you will find the basis for real meaning in life and a solid foundation for hope.

The meaning of LIFE you will find in a dictionary.

I think you may be actually seeking an answer relating to the PURPOSE of life.

To me, that is

* to seek to love everyone irrespective of race, creed, orientation etc in the Christian sense as set out in 1 Corinthians 13 (which is often read at weddings in England);

* to try and help others to do likewise, living in peace and harmony with everyone;

*. to be at peace with oneself and God (in my case the Christian God), seeking His guidance in all things and acting upon it.

Life's Purpose is not about SELF nor SELFISHNESS nor MATERIAL POSSESSIONS

We were created to be companions to God. But we messed up and were separated from God. But He didn't give up on us. He sent His Son, Jesus ( who was sinless ) to give the ultimate sacrifice to save us from our wickedness. After we accept that gift, we are to strive to be like Christ and witness to others, so that in the end, those of us who have acceped Him will live in perfect harmony and companionship with God for all eternity. Which is our purpose to begin with. It's up to us to make our choice. God bless you!!!!
